Rubber Crumb Modified Bitumen Produced from Crude Oils Residuals of Ukrainian Deposits

Abstract: The main regularities of the modification with a rubber crumb for bitumen produced from the residuals of crude oils of Ukrainian deposits have been studied. The thermal stability of the rubber crumb has been examined using the derivatograpgy. The mechanism of bitumen modification with the rubber crumb at low and high temperatures has been established. The influence of technological factors on the main quality indices of modified bitumen has been studied. The changes in the group composition of the original and… Show more

“…However, the problem of road surfaces quality is still relevant in Ukraine. [1][2][3] Typically, bitumen-based asphalt concrete coatings are not able to provide the necessary physical and mechanical properties of coatings and their durability in the conditions of modern tense and intensive traffic. For example, statistical data show that the service life of road surfaces made of bituminousmineral compositions is only 50-70 % of the standard one.…”

“…Currently, rubber crumb is one of the most widespread production wastes, which is used to modify bitumen. 1,7,8,19 Nowadays, UCT are used as raw materials for the lowtemperature pyrolysis process or burned. 14 However, their grinding and use in bitumen production is, in our opinion, much more profitable.…”

“…Crumb rubber is obtained due to the grinding of used tires. 6,7 It was found that the size of crumb rubber particles should not exceed 0.35 mm and its amount in the modified bitumen should be in the range of 5-9 wt%.…”

“…[4][5][6] The main mass transfer process of oil refining in the industry is crude oil fractionation in distillation columns, where different fuel fractions are distilled, which are then used for the production of commercial fuels (gasoline, jet, and diesel fuels) and fuel oil, which is used either as a component of boiler fuel or as a raw material for further deep processing. [7][8] The obtained broad fuel fractions are directed for secondary refining or fed to be separated in order to obtain fuel components. [9][10] In order to obtain a high-quality product, it is important to have not only quality crude oil but also modern technological equipment for processing.…”
