Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were prepared using an eco-friendly approach in a single step by reduction of HAuCl4 with polyphenols from tea extracts, which act as both reducing and capping agents. The obtained AuNPs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV–vis), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). They act as highly efficient catalysts in the reduction of various aromatic nitro compounds in aqueous solution. The effects of a variety of factors (e.g., reaction time, type and amount of reducing agent, shape, size, or amount of AuNPs) were studied towards the optimization of the processes. The total polyphenol content (TPC) was determined before and after the catalytic reaction and the results are discussed in terms of the tea extract percentage, the size of the AuNPs, and their catalytic activity. The reusability of the AuNP catalyst in the reduction of 4-nitrophenol was also tested. The reactions follow pseudo first-order kinetics.

The compound 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) and its derivatives such as N - tert -butyl-2-benzothiazolesulfenamide (Figure ) are used in the industry as accelerators for the vulcanization of rubber. , It is documented that benzothiazoles are not tightly bound in the rubber matrix and thus may leach into waste effluents, which enter sediments via runoff and reach surface water via drainage systems . Evidence for a large amount of MBT and other benzothiazoles is released from vehicle tire rubber into the environment as a result of the weathering and leaching of tire rubber; , the biological activity of benzothiazoles are still limited.…”

The construction of the Three Gorges Dam (TGD) in the Yangtze River raises great concern in ecotoxicological research since large amounts of pollutants enter the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR) water bodies after TGD impoundment. In this work, effect-directed analysis (EDA), combining effect assessment, fractionation procedure, and target and nontarget analyses, was used to characterize aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) agonists in sediments of the TGR. Priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) containing four to five aromatic rings were found to contribute significantly to the overall observed effects in the area of Chongqing. The relatively high potency fractions in the Kaixian area were characterized by PAHs and methylated derivatives thereof and heterocyclic polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs) such as dinaphthofurans. Benzothiazole and derivatives were identified as possible AhR agonists in the Kaixian area based on nontarget liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS). To our knowledge, this study is the first one applying the EDA approach and identifying potential AhR agonists in TGR.

The electrochemical behavior of copper and zinc in neutral (рН 7.4) borate buffer solution with addition of 0.5 M NaCl and the effect of 2-merсaptobenzothiazole (MBT) on the electrochemical processes and adsorption on these metals has been studied by means of electrochemistry and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The formation of MBTmetal cation complex films on copper and zinc surface has been shown. The effect of corrosive media composition and time-dependent relations of nanoscale film growth on the surface of the metals investigated have been determined. It was assumed that adsorbed MBT anion forms M(MBT) х , a polymeric complex where M = Cu + (x = 1) or Zn 2+ (x = 2).
