Routing Protocols in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks

Abstract: Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET), a subclass of mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), is a promising approach for the intelligent transportation system (ITS). The design of routing protocols in VANETs is important and necessary issue for support the smart ITS. The key difference of VANET and MANET is the special mobility pattern and rapidly changeable topology. It is not effectively applied the existing routing protocols of MANETs into VANETs. In this chapter, we mainly survey new routing results in VANET. The auth… Show more

“…An ad hoc network is the interconnection of nodes forming a network that dynamically changes without fixed infrastructure while providing decentralized management 3 . The network of driving vehicles known as VANET is a specific type of Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET), 4 in which the movement of nodes is faster than MANET. A network such as this allows for infrastructure‐to‐vehicle (IVC) and vehicle‐to‐vehicle (V2V) communication.…”
