“…In some cases, mutations in ace1 explain better than mutations in ace2 the altered AChE activity observed in association with insecticide resistance (Kono and Tomita, 2006). In Blattella germanica, specific interference of Bgace1 and Bgace2 genes demonstrates that BgAChE1 is responsible for at least 65e75% of the total AChE activity detected in nerve tissues, and specific interference of Bgace1 produces an increased mortality in insects when treated with insecticides that is not produced after specific interference of Bgace2 (Revuelta et al, 2009). Finally, studies on tissue distribution of Bgace1 and Bgace2 transcripts (Kim et al, 2006b), and the abundance of BgAChE1 in comparison with BgAChE2 using specific antibodies (Kim et al, 2010), suggest the major role of BgAChE1 in postsynaptic transmission.…”

“…1 To date, two AChE genes (ace), ace1 and ace2, which encode AChE1 and AChE2, have been identified in most insects. 2 A recent study conducted using native gel electrophoresis and western blotting confirmed that AChE1 was the main form within the head extract of 67 out of 100 insect species examined. 3 AChE, which plays a critical role in the nervous system, is the main target of organophosphate (OP) and carbamate (CB) compounds for insect pest control.…”
