Rivicola pingtungensis gen. nov., sp. nov., a new member of the family Neisseriaceae isolated from a freshwater river

Abstract: A bacterial strain, designated Npb-03T, was isolated from a freshwater river in Taiwan and was characterized using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. The cells were Gram-reaction-negative, straight rod-shaped, non-motile, non-spore-forming and facultatively anaerobic. Growth occurred at 10–37 °C (optimum, 30–35 °C), at pH 6.0–8.0 (optimum, pH 6.0–7.0) and with 0–1.0 % NaCl (optimum, 0 %). The predominant fatty acids were summed feature 3 (comprising C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c) and C16 : 0. The major isoprenoid… Show more

“…Subsequently, 4 additional genera have been validly described and classified into family Neisseriaceae, namely Amantichitinum (Moß et al, ), Snodgrassella (Kwong & Moran, ), Rivicola (Sheu, Chen, Young, & Chen, ), Crenobacter (Dong et al, ), and Populibacter (Li, Xue, Sang, Lin, & Wang, ). At the time of writing, there are 17 validly described genera included in family Neisseriaceae.…”

“…The genus Neisseria was proposed as the type genus of this family by Trevisan in 1885 [2]. In the last 10 years, seven genera have been assigned to the family Neisseriaceae , namely Amantichitinum [3], Chitiniphilus [4], Chitinivorax [5], Crenobacter [6], Jeongeupia [7], Rivicola [8] and Snodgrassella [9]. The habitats of members of the family Neisseriaceae are variable, including soil, waste or lake water, and human and animal clinical specimens.…”
