“…One of the most common risk factors is ototoxic medication [13][14][15]. The results obtained in our research confirm that, while ototoxic medication is the most common factor of hearing loss (33.13%), it induced sensorineural hearing loss in only 2.86% of our cases.…”

“…The results obtained in our research confirm that, while ototoxic medication is the most common factor of hearing loss (33.13%), it induced sensorineural hearing loss in only 2.86% of our cases. A similar opinion is described by other authors, that ototoxic medication was not the most probable risk factor in any of the patients with concentration in the therapeutic range [13,14].…”

“…Consequently, it was possible to reduce unnecessary referrals and minimize stress, distress and parental anxiety related to income hearing screening. The reduced rates obtained in the literature are based on two stages of NHS-test and retest [19, 20]. There are studies that performed more than one testing before hospital discharge, which further reduced failure rates [21].…”

“…In developed countries familial hearing loss, ie hereditary factors, sepsis and/or meningitis, and craniofacial malformations were identified to be independent significant risk factors for pathologic hearing screening results 29 . The difference in such associations with developed countries might be due to advanced care and decreased postnatal morbidities associated with LBW or SGA babies and careful monitoring of drug levels for ototoxic medications.…”
