Rice Starch–Based Sponge for Use as Topical Hemostatic Agent

Abstract: The topical hemostatic agents in surgery are biomaterials that very important for surgeons to stop bleeding in the complicated areas. Currently available hemostatic agents are often expensive, ineffective or raise safety concerns. Synthetic rice starch-based sponge was an inexpensive and promising alternative. In this study, we synthesized and characterized a new hemostatic agent from rice starch and investigated their use as a hemostatic material. The rice starch-based sponge having interconnected pore were s… Show more

“…Increased of circulating glucose levels in the brain also increase functional connectivity between the hypothalamus, thalamus and striatum as well as decrease the cerebral blood flow thus full sensation will be achieved 15 . The result of this was the low energy density food produces a more stable blood glucose levels that lead to decreased of hunger sensation than in high energy density food 16 .…”

“…Nowadays, plastic is a major environmental disaster, so eco-friendly substances should be an alternative. From previous invention [8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15], we have made a novel starchbased adhesive bandages for medical dressing. In brief, compositions of starch sponge were retro gradation starch, polyvinyl alcohol, distilled water, rice starch powder and povidone-iodine, all mixed under 70-90 o C by hot plate stirrer, then added glycerol, stirred into homogeneous solution, freeze-dried and cutting into desired size and shape (Fig.…”
