Rice breeding on salt tolerance

Abstract: Salt tolerance of rice is of great importance in agricultural production, since productivity of grain grown on saline lands largely depends on it. The paper deals with determining the presence of salt tolerance gene “Saltol” in rice hybrids obtained from crossing contrasting samples. To analyze salt tolerance, there were used seeds germinated in cups with distilled water and 1.5% NaCl solution, after which 10-day-old seedlings were weighed and their ratio to the control was determined. As a result of studies, … Show more

“…To identify the Pi-1 gene, we used primer pairs of the flanking microsatellite SSR markers RM224 and RM144; for the Pi-2 gene, we used RM527 and SSR140; for the Pi-33 gene, RM310 and RM72; for the Pi-b and Pi-ta genes, intragenic markers developed in the laboratory of biotechnology, Federal Scientific Rice Centre. They are localized on chromosomes 11, 6, 8, 2, and 12, respectively ( Table 1 ) [ 19 , 20 ].…”

“…In India, lines with strong early growth energy and rapid uniform germination combined with good yields were selected for the purpose of genetic improvement of rice varieties. This is done to achieve uniformity of the plant population in the field due to effective and rapid germination of seeds from the depth of the soil and early emergence of seedlings, which helps to reduce the number of weeds [3,4,5].…”
