Review: Recent advancement and research possibilities in 4D printing technology

Abstract: The development of smart materials has provided a new technology in the field of 3D printing which is termed as 4D printing technology. Such development has allowed the researchers to design a material and component which can respond to external stimuli. The present review focuses on an overview of the advancement in 3D printing technology and 4D printing technology and possibilities for further development. Apart from 3 dimensions of 3D printing, 4D printing uses time as fourth dimension to create or modify s… Show more

“…Generally, the fluid flow stops at a pH level of 2 whereas restoration occurs at a pH level of 13. [170][171][172] Narupai et al [173] studied protein-based hydrogels for programmable structural shape-changing behavior under the stimulus of temperature, pH, and enzyme. A methacrylated (MA) bovine serum albumin was introduced as pickering emulsion gels in the presence of N-isopropylacrylamide or 2-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate responsible for shapechanging under pH stimulus, as depicted in Figure 11.…”

“…The printed hydrophilic materials were observed as selffolded when dipped in water. [7,8] Many advanced smart polymers such as hydrogel changed shape on immersion in water due to localized swelling anisotropy. [9] However, one of the most common biodegradable materials that is, wood residue has been found self-transforming under the expose of humidity change.…”
