“…Several species of Salvia are known to possess antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anticancer properties that have made Salvia a popular plant in medicine since ancient time (Badisa et al, 2005;Cowan, 1992;Gali-Muhtasib et al, 2000). Salvia is a rich source of phytochemicals including flavonoids, sesquiterpenoides, diterpenoides, sesterterpenes and triterpenes (Hassanzadeh et al (2011); Lu and Foo, 2002); the diterpenes are structurally the most diversified secondary metabolites isolated from Salvia species. Several active components such as tanshinones, D(+)3,4-dihydroxyphenol lactic acid, protocatechuic aldehyde, salvianolic acids (A-F) and rosmarinic acid (Li, 1997;Wang et al, 2010) have been isolated and identified so far.…”

“…On the other hand the amount of 1,8-cineol as the major compound was very high and similar in all of mentioned reports and our work. This compound could be consider as a popular compound in the genus of Nepeta because it was reported as a major compound in approxi-mately 32 different species of Nepeta among 47 species that were analyzed for essential oils components in Iran 8 . Nepetalactones are other major compounds could be finding in the genous of Nepeta in Iran alongside of 1,8-cineol 8 .…”

Nepetalactones are other major compounds could be finding in the genous of Nepeta in Iran alongside of 1,8-cineol 8 . The antimicrobial properties of the oil are suspected to be associated with the high 1,8-cineol content, which has been previously reported to have a significant antimicrobial activity and we could find it in the present work 16,17 .…”
