Reversible Transformation between Isolated Skyrmions and Bimerons

Abstract: Skyrmions and bimerons are versatile topological spin textures that can be used as information bits for both classical and quantum computing. The transformation between isolated skyrmions and bimerons is an essential operation for computing architecture based on multiple different topological bits. Here we report the creation of isolated skyrmions and their subsequent transformation to bimerons by harnessing the electric currentinduced Oersted field and temperature-induced perpendicular magnetic anisotropy var… Show more

“…The attempts on this point have been proposed and even realized in some experiments. 64 , 77 , 78 The other is the internal degrees of freedom—vorticity and helicity, which greatly enrich the morphology of SMT. The tunable internal degree of freedom implies the continuous deformation allowed by topological protection, and enables potential functionality by external stimuli with invariant topological property.…”

“…This phenomenon, termed the skyrmion Hall effect, is generally believed to be detrimental for constructing racetrack-like devices, which could annihilate skyrmions. As a result, substantial efforts have been made to resolve the translational motion of skyrmions from the Hall effect. Here, we show that the intrinsic skyrmion Hall effect could be otherwise implemented for building nonreciprocal skyrmionic devices.…”

“…[8] Such topological properties ensure the inherent stability which makes them technologically appealing to be used in future spintronics for information storage and processing. [9][10][11][12][13] Magnetic skyrmions have been observed experimentally in various bulk and thin film systems. [14][15][16][17] Recently, with the discovery of ferromagnetism in Cr 2 Ge 2 Te 6 , [18] CrI 3 [19] and VSe 2 , [20] 2D magnetic crystals are at the frontier of material research, and intensive efforts are devoted to exploit magnetic skyrmions in 2D lattices.…”
