AbstractPurpose -The research empirically investigates the firm-level impact of ISO 9000 certification on innovation propensity. The study aims to distinguish between manufacturing and service sectors and adopts different innovation definitions aimed at capturing the peculiarities of innovation in services and small firms. Design/methodology/approach -Relying chiefly on Community Innovation Survey data for Luxembourg, the impact of certification on innovation probability is assessed using a logit model that controls for relevant firms characteristics and market features. Findings -The innovation potential of services and small firms is understated when adopting innovation definitions restricted to technological aspects and more formalised innovation activities. ISO 9000 certification may promote innovation when adopting definitions that captures sectoral innovation specificities. In particular, certification increases innovation propensity in manufacturing when the focus is on technological innovation and formalised innovation expenditures. On the contrary, when non-technological aspects are included and allowance is made for wider innovation activities, the impact of certification on services tends to emerge. However, sharper statistical evidence for manufacturing indicates a more important role of certification for innovation success in this sector. Research limitations/implications -Case-study research could supplement the findings concerning the relative effectiveness of certification in services and manufacturing. The investigation would also benefit from extensions in the econometric analysis to address comparisons across samples and potential causality issues. Practical implications -Findings are interesting to practitioners and registrars in order to identify the specific characteristics of firms for which certification provides higher innovative potential. Originality/value -The study highlights the relevance of sectoral specificities and innovation definitions for the debate about the effect of ISO 9000 certification on innovation.

Although the importance of innovation and standardization (I&S) of technology is well understood in the information and communications technology (ICT) community, both in academia and industry, there is a lack of awareness of the definitions of I&S, the relationship between I&S, and popular theories of I&S. The IEEE Communications Society's Emerging Technical Subcommittee on Innovations and Standards in Information and Communication Technology (ISICT) recently conducted a survey that captures the current state of awareness of I&S theories in the ICT community. The survey is also intended to help understand the problems that hinder popular adoption of I&S theories in mainstream industry and academic research processes. This paper analyzes the results of the survey in order to achieve two goals, namely, to quantify the problems and challenges encountered in understanding and studying I&S in ICT and to identify potential solutions to address the problems.

Abstract:In this paper, the part of multicriteria analysis of road knowledge innovation in ICT subfields are segregated and grouped according to the international classification standards (ICS). Correlations between innovation and standardization of communications, local area networks (ICS-2 = 35.110), the global communications and the internet (ICS-2 = 35.100) are presented. Presentation of research innovation sources of knowledge are based on the result of years of study. Results from the overall population of creativity with over 72.340 standardized knowledge sources (ISO standards and SRPS) are segregated for these standardized subfields. Clustering, PDCA methodology (Plan-Do-Check-Act) and other research methods are applied. The focus is on the subfields of the highest intensity of innovation. There are original results: trend analysis, original dimensions, quantity indices, indices of setting values, indices of innovation knowledge resources, etc. The results indicate a correlation of standardization and innovation in the time dimension of the concept of PDCA.
