Nowadays, the widespread use of the internet and the ease of access to the internet have led to an increase in the use of the internet in adolescents as well as adults. Although the internet provides numerous benefits to individuals, it can also cause various harms. While these harms can be occurred in physical, behavioral, mental, and other ways, they can directly affect not only individuals but also their social and business lives. This situation may cause severe problems in terms of the education processes of children and young people. This study aimed to investigate the effects of the internet and social media addiction on students. In this context, the explanatory sequential design was used. Firstly, a survey was conducted to measure the internet addiction levels of the students. Afterwards, the interviews were conducted with the families of 15 students whose internet addiction levels were found to be high in order to examine the effects of the current internet usage levels on the students. As a result of the study, it was concluded that the parents were uncomfortable with the use of the internet and social media which negatively affect students' success and communication with their environment, but they could not intervene too much since the students are adolescents.
