Background: Because it is a complex disease, cancer requires a comprehensive approach in treatment, since tumor cells tend to be very aggressive and uncontrollable. In order to obtain cure or improvement in the standard of living of the cancer patient, different therapeutic modalities are available, among them, radiotherapy, which has improved the prognosis of many neoplasms.Objective: This study aimed to know the performance of nurses in radiotherapy services. Methods and Results:It is a cross-sectional, descriptive and exploratory study with a quantitative approach, developed from June to July 2015. The study sample was composed of eight nurses. The data were collected through a structured questionnaire, analyzed through descriptive statistics. It was verified that nurses are not only restricted to care, buy they work in the supervision of the nursing team, monitor the work process, elaborate the action plan, select materials and equipment, schedule the consultations. In addition, it was possible to observe the importance of the nursing consultation for the individualization of the care and effectiveness of the treatment for the patient. Conclusion:It is observed that for a good progress of the radiotherapy service, there is a need for a trained nursing team with conditions to deal with the complexity and requirements that this modality of treatment demands. Performance of Nurses in Radiotherapy Services ORIGINAL Nauã IntroductionAccording to estimates, more than 12 million cases of cancer are diagnosed annually worldwide, causing more than seven million deaths. The World Health Organization (WHO) points out that, 27 million incident cases and about 17 million deaths from this disease are expected in the year 2030 [1]. It is a major cause of mortality, being a major public health problem. In Brazil, estimates for 2016/2017 point to the occurrence of 600 thousand new cases of cancer [2].Because it is a complex disease, cancer requires a comprehensive approach in treatment, since tumor cells tend to be very aggressive and uncontrollable [3]. In order to obtain cure or improvement in the standard of living of the cancer patient, different therapeutic modalities are available, among them, radiotherapy, which has improved the prognosis of many neoplasms. It uses electromagnetic or corpuscular ionizing energy, generating interaction in neoplastic cells. According to data, it is believed that about 50% of individuals with cancer may at some point use radiotherapy at some stage of treatment [4,5].Radiation therapy is defined as a treatment modality that employs a beam of ionizing radiation appropriate to destroy tumor cells by acting on its deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), with the least acceptable change to surrounding normal cells. Objective: To investigate the work of nurses in the extravasation of antineoplastic chemotherapeutic drugs. Methods: A cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach was performed with a sample of 21 nurses in a referral cancer hospital.Data were collected with a semi-structured questionnaire from October to November 2015 and analyzed through simple and percentage frequency. Results: Nurses had sufficient knowledge about risk factors, prevention, and recognition of signs and symptoms of occurrence of extravasation of chemotherapeutic drugs. However, the same was not observed regarding questions about classification of antineoplastic drugs and interventions aimed at the occurrence of this health condition. Conclusion:The results found are important, as they point to questions that must be reflected upon by hospital managers and educational institutions, apart from professionals concerned with the improvement of health care for the population affected by such disease.Keywords: Extravasation of therapeutic materials and diagnoses; Antineoplastic drugs; Nursing care. resumen Objetivo: Investigar la actuación de los enfermeros en la extravasación de quimioterápicos antineoplásicos. Métodos: Estudio transversal, cuantitativo, realizado en un hospital de referencia en oncología, con una muestra de 21 enfermeros. La recolección de datos se produjo entre octubre y noviembre de 2015, mediante la aplicación del cuestionario semiestructurado; analizados por frecuencia simple y percentual. Resultados: Los participantes demostraron suficiente conocimiento acerca de los factores de riesgo, la prevención y el reconocimiento de los signos y síntomas de la ocurrencia de extravasación por la quimioterapia. No fueron consultados para cuestiones relacionadas con: clasificación de los fármacos antineoplásicos e intervenciones dirigidas a la ocurrencia del agravo. Conclusión: Los resultados de este estudio son importantes y apuntan para cuestiones que deben ser reflejadas por los gerentes de hospitales y centros de formación, así como los profesionales que se preocupen con la mejoría de la asistencia a la población afectada por esta enfermedad.

Objectives: analyze gender inequalities among Brazilian women in Portugal and in contemporary nursing based on care politicity in the light of gender; disclose oppression of the female produced by the stereotypes that look upon women as natural caregivers; point out politicity to deconstruct gender stereotypes. Method: theoretical refl ection with narrative review of literature to analyze classic references in the feminist epistemology combined with the care politicity thesis. Results: the similarities between the stereotypes of the Brazilian Eves and the Portuguese Maries as either the sexualized or sanctifi ed nurse are inserted in the Jewish-Christian moral genealogy that reaffi rms the subservience of the female to the male. Conclusion: by attaching priority to care that needs non-care to expand the possibilities of care giving, the theoretical assumption of politicy of care can contribute to subvert the stereotypical images of Brazilian women in Portuguese lands and in contemporary nursing. RESUMO Objetivos: analisar as desigualdades de gênero entre mulheres brasileiras em Portugal e na enfermagem moderna, a partir da politicidade do cuidado na perspectiva do gênero; explicitar a opressão sobre o feminino reproduzida pelos estereótipos que essencializam a mulher como cuidadora natural; apontar politicidades para a desconstrução dos estereótipos de gênero. Método: refl exão teórica com revisão narrativa de literatura com o propósito de analisar as referências clássicas da epistemologia feminista na articulação com a tese da politicidade do cuidado. Resultados: as similitudes entre os estereótipos das Evasbrasileiras e das Marias-portuguesas com a enfermeira sexualizada ou santifi cada se inscrevem na genealogia da moral judaicocristã que reitera a subserviência do feminino ao masculino. Conclusão: ao priorizar um cuidado que precisa do descuidado para ampliar as possibilidades cuidativas, a premissa teórica da politicidade do cuidado pode contribuir para subverter as imagens essencializadas das brasileiras em solo lusitano e na enfermagem contemporânea.
