Repair of Dimethacrylate-Based Composite Restorations by a Silorane-Based Composite: A One-Year Randomized Clinical Trial

Abstract: The hypothesis tested in this randomized controlled clinical trial was accepted. After the one-year evaluations, the silorane-based composite exhibited a similar performance compared with dimethacrylate-based composite when used to make repairs.

“…Therefore, the contraction observed would be less than 1% against 2–5% of contraction observed in methacrylate‐based composites . It is worth noting that silorane‐based composites require a specific adhesive system, consisting of two bottles: a self‐etching hydrophilic primer and a hydrophobic adhesive resin …”

“…With the development of new adhesives, curing systems and improvement in material properties, dental composites have now become the material [1] of choice for restorative, aesthetic and post endodontic restorations. However, failures such as fractures, marginal staining, anatomical deciencies, recurrent caries, dentin sensitivity and post operative pain are common with composite restoration and therefore they are [2] technique sensitive.…”

“…Although previous studies have evaluated the silorane repair [10][11][12][13][14][15], none of them investigated the influence of other adhesives different than the silorane specific adhesive in combination with different surface conditioning methods and resin composites.…”
