“…Bilateral renal calcification observed in a patient who had anuria following snake bite indicated that bilateral renal cortical necrosis was the pathological lesion causing the anuria (Oram et al, 1963) and recently renal cortical necrosis was seen at post mortem in a case of viper bite (Varagunam and Panabokke, 1970). This paper reports survival in a patient who had acute renal failure due to cortical necrosis following snake bite.…”

“…However, with the large number of cases of puff adder bites it is surprising that renal failure has not been described before! In a review of the literature we have found isolated reports [8] where renal biopsy has been done in renal involvement following snake-bite poisoning. It is likely that as more renal biopsies are done, a better understanding of the renal histological changes and its correlation with the clinical picture following snake-bite poisoning will be obtained.…”

“…In some cases, in which partial recovery occurs & patient survives for several weeks/months calcification of necrotic cortex may occur which can be seen on radiology (Alwall et al, 1958;Effersoe et al, 1962;Oram et al, 1964;Phillips, 1962).…”
