Removal of Hg0 from flue gas using two homogeneous photo‐fenton‐like reactions

Abstract: Removal of Hg 0 using two homogeneous Photo-Fenton-Like reactions was first investigated in a photochemical reactor. Effects of process parameters on Hg 0 removal were studied. Free radical and reaction products were analyzed.

“…Similarly, SO 2 would compete with the oxidants via reactions (87)-(94) to reduce Hg 0 removal (Liu et al , 1616(Liu et al , 2014d(Liu et al , 2015a. 1617 further designed a dry photochemical reactor with built-in UV lamp, which is described in Figure 24 of the dust collector and gas-gas heat exchanger (GGH), and after GGH and before the inlet of the WFGD system.…”

“…A large number of studies 1720 (Liu et al , 2014d(Liu et al , 2015a has shown that, compared with Hg 0 , HgO is easier to remove in a dust 1721 collector or a WFGD device through adsoprtion on fly ash or solution washing. This method has a simple process 1722 and low cost, and can be easily used to revamp the existing thermal power units to achieve mercury removal 1723 in combination with electrostatic/bag type dust collector or WFGD device.…”

“…Emissions of mercury have caused worldwide attention as a result of its negative influence on human health and environment. Fossil fuels combustion processes are considered to be the main anthropogenic mercury emissions source, which account for about 30% of anthropogenic mercury emissions . Mercury from typical coal‐fired flue gas mainly exists in three forms: particulate bounded mercury (Hg p ), elemental mercury (Hg 0 ), and oxidized mercury (Hg 2+ ) .…”

“…However, Hg 0 is extremely hard to be captured as a result of its extremely low water solubility and high volatility at room temperature . To control Hg 0 pollution, various Hg 0 purification technologies, consisting of catalytic oxidation, adsorption removal, chemical oxidation, etc., have been developed. Based on different oxidants and oxidation principles, Hg 0 chemical oxidation technologies can be further divided between conventional oxidation and free radical advanced oxidation …”

“…Anions, such as Cl − , NO 3 − , and CO 3 2− , are widely present in dye wastewaters. It is reported that Cl − , NO 3 − , and CO 3 2− ions inhibit the degradation efficiency of organic pollutants via undesirable reactions with •OH () . The effect of anions on the Fenton‐like degradation of AO7 is shown in Figure .…”
