This paper aims to explore the impact of ethnic differences and ethnic stereotyping on the atmosphere of peace, written based on the conflict event between Muslims of different ethnicities (ethnic Malay of Sambas and ethnic Madurese) in Sambas in 1999. This paper, based on my research from 2018, is qualitative research with data obtained from observation, interviews, and documentation. Regarding the method, this research used a qualitative method that leads to a case study model as an investigative method. Meanwhile, for data analysis, the interactive data analysis method using the theory of self-categorization was employed. Based on the findings of the study, ethnic differences and stereotypes had a significant impact on the escalation of conflict between Muslims in Sambas in 1999. These ethnic differences and stereotypes essentially emerged as a consequence of the way a person or group of people of a particular ethnicity categorizes a person or group of people of another ethnicity.

Religious education in Indonesia has an important role in shaping students' character and tolerance. However, there are still challenges in integrating tolerance values in religious textbooks. The purpose of this study is to analyze the elements of tolerance in Hinduism textbooks for elementary school students. This research used a content analysis approach to analyze the elements of tolerance in the stories and illustration pictures of Hindu religious textbooks for elementary school students. The results showed that the elements of tolerance in the textbooks could be grouped into an appreciation for differences, understanding of diversity, cooperation and brotherhood, and justice. These findings indicate that Hindu religious textbooks can be an effective means to promote values of tolerance among elementary school students. The scientific contribution of this study is that content analysis can be used to identify the elements of tolerance in Hindu religious textbooks for elementary school. The significance of this research lies in its implications for educators and curriculum developers. By highlighting the elements of tolerance, this study underscores the importance of incorporating these values into religious education curricula. It emphasizes the need for educators and textbook authors to pay attention to and reinforce tolerance elements in the content and design of religious textbooks. In doing so, religious education can effectively contribute to the development of diverse and understanding communities among elementary school students in Indonesia.

Social conflicts between religious communities are a social and cultural issue that still needs to be addressed. They pose a challenging phenomenon within society, creating tension and fractures between individuals and groups with different beliefs. These tensions often pose a threat to the harmony and cohesion among religious communities in Indonesia. Therefore, this study aims to examine the phenomenon of social conflicts among religious communities from the perspective of sociology of religion. Employing a qualitative method with a literature study approach, it explores social conflicts among religious communities from the viewpoint of sociology of religion. The research findings indicated that interfaith dialogue is recognized as an evolving effort to foster associational and social interactions among religious believers. The significant role of the sociology of religion lies in its integral part in the continuous social process, shaping tolerance among religious followers.
