“…Third, our study shares similar findings to extant literature that key leaders who have a higher level of compassion are likely to seek benefits for the society and the environment while achieving economic objectives through their sustainable decisions, especially those related to preserving the nature (Dutton et al, 2014; Jordan et al, 2016; Miller et al, 2012; Pfattheicher et al, 2016). However, different from the positive impact of Buddhism on sustainable decions in extant literature (Abdullah & Keshminder, 2020; Engel et al, 2020), our study highlights that following Buddhist teachings and practicing Buddish lifestyles themselves are only associated with sustainable decision making through the mediating role of compassion, the concern for others' sufferings. To be more specifically, following Buddhist teachings and practice Buddhist lifestyles, key leaders can understand and practice different principles of Buddhism such as karma (Thondup, 2017), impermanence (Yoneyama, 2007), the four noble truths (Mendis, 1994), and the Noble Eightfold Path (Gethin, 1998).…”
