Relative leaf expansion rate and other leaf-related indicators for detection of drought stress in chili pepper (Capsicum annuum L.).

Abstract: Leaf is a sensitive plant organ in responding to abiotic stresses, especially drought stress. Objective of this research was to evaluate changes of relative leaf expansion rate (RLER) and other leaf-related indicators as affected by gradual drought stress. The stress was induced by withholding water supply to chili pepper (Capsicum annum L.) for up to 12 days. Afterward, the crops were allowed to recover. The research was conducted in two stages. The first stage was for finding a reliable leaf area (LA) estima… Show more

“…Analisis yang dilakukan adalah pengukuran tinggi tanaman dan lebar daun dilakukan secara kuantitatif menggunakan penggaris. Tinggi tanaman dihitung mulai dari titik pangkal batang sampai ujung daun tertinggi dari tanaman sedangkan pengukuran lebar daun dilakukan dengan menarik jarak antara garis daun terluar dari kedua sisi daun (Oktabriana, 2017;Widuri et al, 2017).…”

“…Widuri et al (2017) as follows: ILD = 0.606 x P x L ILD: Index of leaf area (cm 2 ); P: leaf length; L: leaf width Defoliation is the percentage of leaves eaten by the insects. Defoliation was measured using the following formula: LDD = D x ILD LDD: Area of eaten leaves; D: Defoliation…”

“…Only few had used zero intercept linear or polynomial regression in estimating leaf area (Lakitan et al 2017;Meihana et al 2017;Widuri et al 2017). Despite, leaf area estimation model had been developed as early as 1930's (Hopkins, 1939) or earlier; zero intercept regression or regression through the origin had only been used since 1980's (Lakitan, 1989) or perhaps a bit earlier.…”
