Relationship between progeny growth performance and molecular marker-based genetic distances in Eucommia ulmoides parental genotypes

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Progeny performances, variations and combining abilities for growth traits were evaluated in a factorial mating design of Eucommia ulmoides. Three marker systems, sequence-related amplified polymorphism, amplified fragment length polymorphism, and intersimple sequence repeat, were used to determine genetic distances between parents. Correlations of genetic distances with progeny performances, within-family coefficients of variation and specificcombining abilities were established for height and basal… Show more

“…Segregation distortion is a common problem in population mapping, and a number of variables could have led to SD [34][35][36][37][38]. In the current study, there were also significant differences in parental origin and growth-related traits between "Xiaoye" and "Qinzhong No.1" [39], and the genetic difference between parents was also an important factor affecting SD. There were no three or four alleles in the SSR marker, which may be related to the conservatism of CDS (coding sequence) identified via transcriptome sequencing.…”

“…This is beneficial for the development of biofortified yardlong bean cultivars with good agronomic traits. The crossing of genotypes from different clusters could yield progenies with high genetic diversity and desirable morphological features (Li et al 2014).…”

“…Eucommia ulmoides; chloroplast genome; evolutionary relationship; phylogenetic relationship Eucommia ulmoides is the single extant species in the genus Eucommia, which also has shown a variety of important pharmacological activities and medicinal applications in China (Wang et al 2014). It is native to China, which has been widely cultivated in central and southeastern regions at China and other countries in the world (Li et al 2014). E. ulmoides as a traditional Chinese medicine can use for orthopedic treatment, whichi alao has several pharmacological properties such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, antimicrobial, anticancer, antiaging, cardioprotective and neuroprotective properties at the same time (Hussain et al 2016).…”
