Show more

“…For instance, Rodrigues et al [71] compared experimental data of the elastic moduli of Al 2 O 3 foams (P: 60-90%) to several models proposed in the literature, as depicted in Figure 15. These authors considered the Al 2 O 3 foams as isotropic material and, therefore, the experimental data fitted well with the MacKenzie [68] and Gibson and Ashby (GA) [22,23] models.…”

“…The relative densities of the green samples and sintered samples were calculated according to the ratio between the apparent density, as measured by immersion in mercury (Archimedes' principle) at 20 °C, and the theoretical density of the solids, as determined by pycnometry. From the values of the apparent density (ρ a ) and theoretical density of the solids (ρ s ), the porosity (ε) of each body was determined according to Equation 3 [30] :…”

“…Thus, porous ceramics generally have lower mechanical resistance when compared to dense ceramics. Therefore, their applications are different and can not be used as structural materials [7,8]. The main properties of porous ceramics are low thermal conductivity, low density, high surface area, high permeability and high refractoriness [9].…”
