Abstract:O registro de cultivares permite a produção e comercialização de sementes no país. Show more
“…In the species studied here, the various fruit shapes and sizes can be cited as examples of variability: the fruit of C. annuum is a small berry with a smooth texture (MOSCONE et al, 2007); the fruits of C. chinense are elongated, which measure approximately 1.0 to 1.5 cm in diameter and possess a smooth texture (NUEZ-VIÑALS et al, 2003); the fruit of C. frutencens is a smooth fusiform berry (BENTO et al, 2007); and the fruits of C. baccatum are smooth and round but variable in size and shape and average 0.6 cm in diameter and 10 cm in length (CARVALHO et al, 2009).…”
ABSTRACT. This study aimed to determine the chromosome number and the karyotype of Capsicum annuum, Capsicum chinense, Capsicum frutencens and Capsicum baccatum accessions in the active Capsicum sp. genebank at the Federal University of Piauí (BGC-UFPI). These species have great economic importance throughout the world, and their cytogenetic characterization can inform taxonomy and lead to improvement in the genus. Karyotypes were obtained from the rootlet meristems of the studied accessions using the squash method and Giemsa staining. The chromosome number 2n=2x=24 was verified for each of the four species. Chromosomal polymorphisms were observed for the C. frutencens accession BGC 37, which presented 12 pairs of metacentric chromosomes instead of 11 pairs of metacentric chromosomes and 1 submetacentric chromosome pair present in other accessions. In the accessions BGC 01 and BGC 37, secondary constrictions were observed in the 1 and 12 as well as in the 6 and 11 homologs, respectively. The karyotypes of the studied species were asymmetrical among themselves. The results obtained in this study confirm the high genetic diversity previously described in the literature for this genus. Keywords: pepper, cytogenetics, genebank, morphometry.

Morphological characterization, determination of ploidy level and pollen viability of a progeny of tangerines 'Clementina Fina' and 'Montenegrina'
AbstractCitrus plants show morphological and cytogenetic variability and these characteristics can be useful to identify the materials for hybridization. A population of hybrid tangerines, originated from the cross between 'Clementina Fina' (Citrus clementina Hort. ex Tan.) as female and 'Montenegrina' (Citrus deliciosa Ten.) as male parents, was characterized using morphological traits, maturation period, chromosome number and pollen viability. It was possible to distinguish the 94 plants of the progeny and the parents by morphological traits. The time of fruit ripening of the hybrid extended from the beginning of April until the end of August. All plants analyzed are diploid with a chromosome number of 2n = 18 and presented high pollen viability, varying from 79.0% to 98.1%.
“…This law basically grants a certificate that recognizes the intellectual property of a new plant variety resulting from the study of plant breeders, aiming to protect scientific knowledge, allowing individuals and organizations that carry out plant breeding to receive royalties for the use of new varieties marketed, to refund them for the investments made, encouraging them to continue the research process (Teramoto and Teixeira, 2008;Marinho et al, 2011). Therefore, the SNPC is in charge of evaluating the requests and ensuring the intellectual property rights of the producers of new phylogenetic combinations, in the form of distinct, homogenous and stable cultivars (Carvalho et al, 2009). …”

“…Both the conventional and genetically modified products go through a process of evaluation and recommendation by MAPA, and can also be protected, safeguarding the intellectual rights of breeders, and ensuring permission for commercial exploitation (royalties) for a certain period of time (Carvalho et al, 2009). Therefore, all the cultivars that have been registered are recorded in the RNC and all the cultivars protected are recorded in the SNPC.…”
