Regionalization of Soil and Water Conservation Aimed at Ecosystem Services Improvement

Abstract: To effectively control soil erosion, three hierarchies of the National Soil and Water Conservation Regionalization Scheme have been established in China. However, the scheme has its limits, which can be summarized by two points: first, the tertiary hierarchy functional region exhibits obvious heterogeneity; second, the ecosystem function does not influence the regionalization scheme results during the process of regionalization. To enhance the guidance of the regionalization, a new indicator system included so… Show more

“…To guide the ecological protection and restoration of MRFFLGD, we suggest that each type of ecological protection and restoration unit in the study area should adopt the protection and restoration mode of conservation, natural restoration and auxiliary regeneration 51 . Therefore, in view of the ecological environmental problems and the spatial distribution of high-risk areas in the ARB, we further put forward suggestions on the spatial distribution of key engineering measures in the area of ecological protection (Figure 7, Table 7).…”

“…Forests cover approximately 31% of the Earth’s land surface (FAO and UNEP 2020 ) and provide numerous benefits and services to society, including water conservation, habitat, recreation, and regulation of local to global climates (Prevedello et al 2019 ; Hu et al 2020 ).…”

“…However, food systems today have threatened the potential to nurture human health and support environmental sustainability (Van der Werf et al, 2020;Willett et al, 2019). Note that now, the focus of the problem is not population growth, but the ability to keep the biosphere "healthy" through the natural cycle (Hu et al, 2020;Tudge, 2017).…”
