Reconstruction for the brilliance-upgrading project of the Photon Factory storage ring

Abstract: Reconstruction of the Photon Factory storage ring (PF ring; 2.5 GeV) is now in progress to provide very brilliant synchrotron radiation to users, i.e. the emittance is being reduced by a factor of five. Components, such as the quadrupole and sextupole magnets, vacuum chambers, beamlines and beam-position monitors, are being replaced by new ones in 16 normal-cell sections of the PF ring. The accelerating cavities, injection systems and control systems are also being replaced. Operation will commence when the im… Show more

“…Lead L III -edge XAFS data for Pb sorption sample on kaolinite (PbKaol), PbO, and PbCO 3 were collected at the bending magnet beamline 20B of the Australian National Beamline Facility (ANBF) at the Photon Factory (KEK, Tsukuba, Japan) using a 12-element solid-state fluorescence detector (PbKaol) or in transmission mode (PbO, PbCO 3 ). The operating details of this beamline and the Photon Factory storage ring have been described elsewhere [15,16]. The ionization column (I 0 ), the transmission (I t ), and the reference (I r ) column were filled with mixtures of Ar and N 2 gas resulting in ca.…”

“…The "Scrap & Build" project of beamlines has been proceeding in the Photon Factory (KEK-PF) in accordance with the "High Brilliance" project of the storage ring (Katoh et al, 1998a(Katoh et al, , 1998b. The reduction of the electron beam emittance 8 increases the brilliance of the synchrotron radiation.…”

“…Users of IDs had called up a ring operator to change the gap for choosing the photon energy during their SR experiments. This control system of the IDs has been renewed in accordance with reconstruction for the brillianceupgrading project of the PF ring [1]. This new control system has one workstation for the IDs (ID-WS) and five VME systems.…”
