Recommendations on Breast Cancer Screening and Prevention in the Context of Implementing Risk Stratification: Impending Changes to Current Policies

Abstract: In recent years, risk stratification has sparked interest as an innovative approach to disease screening and prevention. The approach effectively personalizes individual risk, opening the way to screening and prevention interventions that are adapted to subpopulations. The international perspective project, which is developing risk stratification for breast cancer, aims to support the integration of its screening approach into clinical practice through comprehensive tool-building. Policies and guidelines for r… Show more

“…Furthermore, such development supports the implementation of preventive strategies aiming to reduce the exposure to other known risk factors (e.g., early spaying recommendation and avoidance of hormonal anti-contraceptive therapy). 6,23 It is noteworthy that although most of the SNPs assessed in our study are not significantly associated with CMT risk, they may indeed influence the clinicopathologic features and biological behavior of the neoplastic disease, which are areas that deserve evaluation in future investigations.…”

“…A calculated risk of BC in these women is ranged from 20% to 29% based upon family history, personal health history, or certain genetic markers. Average-risk women (low-risk women) with none of the above risk factors have a 10-13% lifetime risk of BC [48]. Mammography screening in low-or intermediate-risk women aged less than 50 years is intensively discussed.…”
