Recipient site preparation by cryoblebbing in melanocyte keratinocyte transplantation procedure over the fingers in vitiligo: A pilot study

Abstract: Surgical treatment of vitiligo lesions over the fingers has poor outcome. In this intrapatient comparative study, 12 patients with stable non-segmental vitiligo (NSV) affecting the middle three fingers of one hand were included. Three variations were used in treatment of finger vitiligo lesions: minipuch grafting, melanocytes keratinocyte transplantation procedure (MKTP) preceded by cryoblebbing or full CO 2 laser resurfacing of the recipient site. Liquid nitrogen was used to create blebs in one

“…18 In a recent study comparing cryoblebbing, and CO 2 laser resurfacing followed by melanocyte keratinocyte transplantation, and mini punch grafting (MPG) over fingers in nonsegmental vitiligo showed superior efficacy of cryoblebbing over other two procedures. 19 In our study, dermabrasion and cryoblister produced excellent (90%) and moderate repigmentation (62.5%) in the difficult-to-treat acral areas, respectively. All three interventions in our study were done predominantly over acral areas indicating that the acral patches are more resistant to the medical therapies and hence require surgical modality of treatment for inducing repigmentation.…”

“…In a comparative study of cryoblister and CO 2 laser in NCES, comparable pigmentation was seen with both methods but cryoblister was found to be more effective than CO 2 laser in acral areas 18 . “…One is that the drug produces melanocytes colonization in the vitiliginous epidermis by stimulating the division of epidermal melanocytes that migrate into the affected areas after epithelialization of the epidermis occurs. The second proposed that, the melanocytes responsible for repigmentation in vitiligo may be derived from the hair follicles [3] .…”
