Recent applications in CEC

Abstract: In this review, research papers on CEC are summarized that have been published between May 2005 and May 2007. Application-oriented research is discussed in which CEC is used in biochemical and pharmaceutical studies, in the analysis of food and natural products, and in industrial, environmental, and forensic analysis. Some trends and developments in separation science that may increase the applicability of the separation technique CEC are highlighted: 2-D separation systems and the application of nano- and mic… Show more

“…CEC is a hybrid separation technique that couples the high separation efficiency of CE with the superior selectivity of HPLC [1]. Despite the fact that CEC is recognized as having tremendous potential in the pharmaceutical and biomedical fields, several technical problems have to be addressed before the technique achieves general acceptance and finds widespread applications.…”

“…Currently, most of these analyses are performed by HPLC, but the characteristics and availability of CE instrumentation have made CEC a technique with potential in these industries. (Lerma-Garcia et al, 2008;Huo et al, 2008) The parabens are esters of p-hydroxybenzoic acid that differ in the alkyl group linked to the ester functional group. The parabens have antimicrobial functions and thus act as preservatives in food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics (De Rossi, Desiderio, 2002).…”

“…Although CEC has been successfully used for the analysis of pharmaceutical compounds (Huo, Kok, 2008;Castro-Puyana et al, 2010), few studies have been performed on the separation of parabens. The work of Huang et al (2004) used monolithic columns based on esters of methacrylates as stationary phase.…”
