Recent Advances in Electrocatalysis of Oxygen Evolution Reaction using Noble‐Metal, Transition‐Metal, and Carbon‐Based Materials

Abstract: A considerable concern in exploring clean, efficient, and renewable energy resources to effectively replace fossil fuels and to combat the environmental problems and energy scarcities for a sustainable future has been observed. In this context, hydrogen is a clean, renewable, energetically efficient fuel with infinite potential for the future, which can generate a large amount of energy through the electrocatalytic splitting of earth‐abundant water resources. Noble metals, owing to their extraordinary efficien… Show more

“…Various doped carbons, molybdenum-and transition-metalbased compounds embedded carbons have been synthesized and delivered excellent activity and robust stability for HER noble-metal-free catalyst. [292][293][294][295] Zhou et al have summarized the design concepts for carbon-based noble-metal-free HER catalysts. [296] Single type atoms (e. g., N, B, S) as a dopant into carbon can enable carbon activity for HER.…”

“…But, in case of OER, carbon‐based materials do not perform well enough on their own 35‐37 . Thus, many researchers are trying to improve OER performance by adding transition metal to carbon‐based materials 38‐41 . These hybrid materials have improved OER catalytic performance.…”
