Real-time phase-only color holographic video display system using LED illumination

Abstract: A real-time full-color phase-only holographic display system generates holograms of 3D objects. The system includes a 3D object formed by voxels, an internet-based transmission capability that transmits the object information to the server, a real-time hologram generation unit, and a holographic display unit with incoherent illumination. The server calculates three phase holograms for RGB components using multiple GPUs. The resultant phase holograms are saved into an RGB bitmap image and loaded to the phase-on… Show more

“…Reduction of coherence is a frequently applied technique for reducing speckle. However, it limits the space-bandwidth product of the captured signal in both digital holographic recording and holographic displays [25,26]. In this paper we therefore use another solution which has been mentioned in Section 3 in which the temporal bandwidth of the SLMs is used for noise reduction.…”

“…Traditional computer-generated Fourier Transform holograms [25,26] are designed by retrieving the phase or amplitude profile on the hologram plane using certain algorithms [27]. This retrieved phase is traditionally assumed to arise via the dynamic phase, which is inherently wavelength dependent.…”

“…Nevertheless, it can reduce the amount of calculation since AR device usually shows 2D simple pictures and the relative position between AR and human eye is xed. Some of the non-iterative method, such like accurate compensated phase-added stereogram, can be used in computation [20,21]. The simpli ed calculation make the implementation become more practical.…”
