Having good reading skills has many advantages to the individual in both educational and wider social contexts throughout life. To be a proficient reader, one needs to master phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension skills. The study aims to investigate the effectiveness of the use of the audio pen as an assistive technology in reading to develop reading fluency, comprehension and vocabulary skills among preschool children in a selected semi-urban preschool. Data was collected from the reading skills tests, and interviews. A total of 10 preschool children between five to six years of age were selected to use the audio pen as an intervention for a duration of eight weeks. The results from the tests showed that the majority of the children improved their reading fluency, comprehension and vocabulary skills. The results of the interviews showed that most of the participants had a positive perception and positive engagement in the use of the audio pen. These positive results suggest that an audio pen is a feasible and good intervention to be used along with traditional texts to enhance reading skills among preschool children.

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the relation between middle school students' fluent reading skills and their level of reader self-efficacy and attitude toward reading, using social media; to reveal whether level of fluent reading differentiate according to tex gender. 340 middle school students who were chosen through random sampling method from Yozgat city center participated in the research. The research was carried out with descriptive and relational screening model from quantitative designs. According to the results of the study, a positive and significant relation exists between fluent reading and participants' reader self-efficacacy perception level. In parallel with this, a positive relation was determined between attitude toward reading and fluent reading. It was observed that students who use social media read more fluently than the ones who do not use social media, and that the expository text was read less fluently than the other texts. It was seen that the narrative text was the more fluently read text. Reached results were compared with the related literature and discussed.

Resumen 12La Educación Secundaria en la República Dominicana se puede convertir en un obstáculo para que sus ciudadanos se inserten de forma competitiva en la economía global, y tengan, en general, una vida de bienestar personal. La lectura es un requisito imprescindible para asegurar el desarrollo de las personas y la igualdad de oportunidades. Partiendo de esa mirada, fue pensada y realizada esta investigación, la cual, describe el perfil lector del estudiante de secundaria y propone orientaciones para su mejora. Para la misma, se tomó una muestra de 382 estudiantes a nivel nacional, y se aplicaron tres instrumentos: ColeP, basado en los textos liberados de PISA; Escala de Fluidez Lectora Adaptada, y un cuestionario de Práctica Lectora. El resultado principal es que un mínimo porcentaje de los estudiantes son considerados "lectores", de los cuáles, la mayoría pertenece al sector privado, a pesar que casi todos los estudiantes del sector público tienen acceso a recursos tecnológicos y han realizado, al menos, un curso del nivel inicial, lo que hace necesario repensar las estrategias de intervención focalizando las características de cada centro educativo.Palabras clave: Competencia lectora; educación secundaria; fluidez lectora; práctica de lectura.1. Reading is an essential requirement to ensure the development of people for reaching equal opportunities. This research describes the reading profile of the secondary student and proposes guidelines for improvement. With a sample of 382 students at the national level, three instruments were applied: ColeP, based on the texts released from PISA, Adapted Reading Fluency Scale and a Reader Practice questionnaire. A minimum percentage of the participants is considered as "readers"; the majority attends the private sector, although almost all students in the public sector have access to technological resources and have completed at least one course at the initial level. It is necessary to rethink the intervention strategies focusing on the characteristics of each educational center.
