Due to the consequences of changes in fertility and mortality rates, there is an increase in population aging. In this context, the use of potentially inappropriate medications in this population makes nurses important agents in the identification of adverse reactions, requiring their knowledge about these drugs and their effects. The study aimed to verify nurses knowledge about the 2015 AGS BeersCriteria, regarding the potentially inappropriate medications for the elderly, and their adverse effects. It is a cross-sectional, descriptive, and analytical study with a quantitative and qualitative approach performed in a teaching hospital in the Triângulo Mineiro, Minas Gerais. Of the 80 professionals, 74.1% reported attending the elderly frequently, and only 3.8% had a specialization course in elderly health. Only 13.8% reported knowing the Beers Criteria. And 69% believe that adverse drug reactions can be confused as a new symptom and because of this, new drugs can be inserted into the therapeutic plan. Three categories emerged: The importance of assertive knowledge about PIMs, The nurse as a fundamental character in ADR, and Knowledge as a reinforcer of care. There is evidence of the need to train nurses to better identify adverse drug reactions so that they can act on these events avoiding the worsening of the individual.

Objectives: This study identifies the factors associated with the occurrence of adverse events in adults and elderly on antiretroviral therapy. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study carried out with adults and elderly patients, attended by the Specialized Assistance Service between September 2016 and August 2017. Adverse events were measured through self-reports collected in interviews, information collected in medical records, and changes identified in laboratory tests, with the degree of causality being assessed using the Naranjo Algorithm. Univariate analysis, with results expressed as odds ratio (OR) and their respective confidence intervals (CI 95%), was performed to estimate the association between sociodemographic, pharmacotherapeutic, and clinical characteristics (explanatory variables) with the occurrence of four or more adverse events to antiretroviral therapy (response variable). For multivariate analysis, multiple logistic regression was considered in order to verify the permanence or absence of associations previously found in the univariate analysis. Results: Prevalence of adverse events to antiretroviral therapy was 92.6%, with the median of adverse events being four (IQR 25%: 2 ; IQR 75%: 5) and two (IQR 25%: 2 ; IQR 75%: 4), respectively, among adults and elderly (p <0.05). Additionally, 340 adverse events were identified, among which nightmares (15.0%) and vertigo (13.5%) were the most frequent. Most of the adverse events identified were classified as possible (96.2% / n = 327). In the initial univariate analysis, factors such receipt of guidance on adverse events and age were associated with a higher occurrence of adverse events to antiretroviral therapy. Contrary to expectations, the elderly were considered less susceptible to have adverse events when compared to adults (OR = 0.363; CI 95% = 0.164-0.801). However, the final multivariate analysis model revealed "receipt of guidance on adverse events" as the only variable significantly associated with the presence of four or more adverse events to antiretroviral therapy (OR = 4.183 ; CI 95% = 1.775-9.855). Conclusions: Results suggest difference in perception of adverse events between patients who received and those who did not receive guidance in this regard, which indicates the importance of health professionals to provide specific information to their patients regarding adverse events to antiretroviral therapy. Introdução: A polifarmácia, representada pelo uso de cinco ou mais medicamentos por uma única pessoa, cresce cada vez mais na população idosa e traz graves riscos a essa parcela etária. Portanto, a atenção Farmacêutica é uma prática que tem como principal finalidade melhorar a qualidade de vida do paciente estabelecendo um tratamento farmacológico especifico e eficaz. Metodologia: tendo como base este estudo foi realizado através de pesquisa bibliográfica, de caráter exploratório e descritivo de revisão integrativa específica e objetiva. Resultado: Como resultado desta pesquisa descreveu-se questões referente a assuntos de temas que abordam como "o processo de envelhecimento", "metabolismo do idoso", "envelhecimento músculo-esquelético e sarcopenia", "envelhecimento celular", "reações adversas ao medicamento", "farmacocinética e farmacodinâmica", "polifarmácia no idoso", "interação medicamentosa no idoso", "a importância da atenção farmacêutica em idosos na polifarmácia". Conclusão: O uso de vários medicamentos (polifarmácia) pela comunidade idosa, por concomitantemente, traz como consequência um aumento da possibilidade de reações adversas e intoxicações. A atenção farmacêutica é um dos pontos chaves para a utilização correta da polifarmácia em idosos. Por meio dela é possível avaliar as prescrições e os medicamentos que estão sendo utilizados de forma inapropriada por estes.
