We consider rare semileptonic decays of a heavy D-meson into a light vector meson in the framework of QCD factorization. In contrast to the corresponding B-meson decays, the naive factorization hypothesis does not even serve as a first approximation. Rather, the decay amplitudes appear to be dominated by non-factorizable dynamics, e.g. through annihilation topologies, which are particularly sensitive to long-distance hadronic contributions. We therefore pay particular attention to intermediate vector-meson resonances appearing in quark-loop and annihilation topologies. Compared to the analogous B-meson decays, we identify a number of effects that result in very large theoretical uncertainties for differential decay rates. Some of these effects are found to cancel in the ratio of partially integrated decay rates for transversely and longitudinally polarized ρ mesons. On the phenomenological side this implies a very limited potential to constrain physics beyond the Standard Model by means of these decays.

The photon polarization in radiative D decays, phenomenologically

We work out the phenomenology of untagged time-dependent analysis with radiative D 0 -decays into CP eigenstates, which allows to probe the photon polarization by means of the charm mesons' finite width difference. We show that D 0 → φγ or D 0 →K 0 * γ decays, which are SM-dominated, or SM-like, respectively, together with Uspin allow to obtain chirality-predictions for radiative decay amplitudes. The order of magnitude of wrong-chirality contributions in the SM can be cross-checked with an up-down asymmetry in D 0 →K 0 1 (→K ππ)γ . We explore the sensitivity to new physics in | c| = | u| = 1 dipole couplings in the decays D 0 → ρ 0 γ . We point out the possibility to test the SM with D s → K + 1 (→ K ππ)γ decays.

In this paper we consider the decay D+ → π+ℓ+ℓ−, addressing in particular the resonance contributions as well as the relatively large contributions from the weak annihilation diagrams. For the weak annihilation diagrams we include known results from QCD factorisation at low q2 and at high q2, adapting the existing calculation for B decays in the Operator Product Expansion. The hadronic resonance contributions are obtained through a dispersion relation, modelling the spectral functions as towers of Regge-like resonances in each channel, as suggested by Shifman, imposing the partonic behaviour in the deep Euclidean. The parameters of the model are extracted using e+e− → (hadrons) and τ → (hadrons) + ντ data as well as the branching ratios for the resonant decays D+ → π+R(R → ℓ+ℓ−), with R = ρ, ω, and ϕ. We perform a thorough error analysis, and present our results for the Standard Model differential branching ratio as a function of q2. Focusing then on the observables FH and AFB, we consider the sensitivity of this channel to effects of physics beyond the Standard Model, both in a model independent way and for the case of leptoquarks.
