-The objective of this work was to estimate the genetic parameters and to evaluate the associations between vegetative and yield characteristics, in full-sib progenies of guava tree (Psidium guajava). The following characteristics were evaluated: yield per plant, number of fruits, fruit mass, plant height, stem diameter, and canopy volume. The estimation of genetic parameters was obtained by the REML/Blup procedure. Based on the breeding values predicted by Blup, the genetic and canonical correlations were estimated, and the genetic correlation coefficients were unfolded into direct and indirect effects on the character yield per plant using path analysis. Genetic variability was estimated for number of fruits (567.66) and yield per plant (11.818), with high genetic correlation (0.9045), indicating simultaneous selection. Indirect selection did not promote simultaneous gains for yield per plant with the primary components number of fruits and fruit mass, making it difficult to obtain guava cultivars with high yield, number of fruits, and fruit mass. The vegetative traits had little effect on yield, number of fruits, and fruit mass.Index terms: Psidium guajava, correlations, path analysis, REML/Blup. Associações entre características vegetativas e de produção em progênies de irmãos completos de goiabeiraResumo -O objetivo deste trabalho foi estimar os parâmetros genéticos e avaliar as associações entre características vegetativas e de produção em progênies de irmãos completos de goiabeira (Psidium guajava). Avaliaram-se as seguintes características: produção por planta, número de frutos, massa de frutos, altura da planta, diâmetro de caule e volume de copa. A estimativa de parâmetros genéticos foi obtida com o procedimento REML/Blup. Com base nos valores genéticos preditos pelo Blup, estimaram-se as correlações genéticas e canônicas, e realizou-se o desdobramento dos coeficientes de correlação genética em efeitos diretos e indiretos sobre a característica produção por planta, com análise de trilha. Estimou-se variabilidade genética para número de frutos (567,66) e produção por planta (11,818), com alta correlação genética (0,9045), o que evidencia seleção simultânea. A seleção indireta não promoveu ganhos simultâneos para produção por planta a partir dos componentes primários número de frutos e massa de frutos, o que dificulta a obtenção de cultivares de goiabeira com alta produção, número de frutos e massa de fruto. ABSTRACT. The multivariate analyses are useful tools to estimate the genetic variability between accessions. In the breeding programs, the Ward-Modified Location Model (MLM) multivariate method has been a powerful strategy to quantify variability using quantitative and qualitative variables simultaneously. The present study was proposed in view of the dearth of information about popcorn breeding programs under a multivariate approach using the Ward-MLM methodology. The objective of this study was thus to estimate the genetic diversity among 37 genotypes of popcorn aiming to identify divergent groups associated with morpho-agronomic traits and traits related to resistance to Fusarium spp. To this end, 7 qualitative and 17 quantitative variables were analyzed. The experiment was conducted in 2014, at Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense, located in Campos dos Goytacazes, RJ, Brazil. The Ward-MLM strategy allowed the identification of four groups as follows: Group I with 10 genotypes, Group II with 11 genotypes, Group III with 9 genotypes, and Group IV with 7 genotypes. Group IV was distant in relation to the other groups, while groups I, II, and III were near. The crosses between genotypes from the other groups with those of group IV allow an exploitation of heterosis. The Ward-MLM strategy provided an appropriate grouping of genotypes; ear weight, ear diameter, and grain yield were the traits that most contributed to the analysis of genetic diversity.

A B S T R A C TConsidering the relevant importance of guava (Psidium guajava) in Northeastern Brazil along with the benefits of neem cake amendments on soil characteristics, this work evaluated the effects of neem cake on chemical attributes of a Regosol under irrigated guava orchard in an alluvial valley of Pernambuco semi-arid region. Evaluations were carried out in two areas (area 1 -with neem cake; area 2 -without neem cake) at three periods: before the first application of neem cake, 90 days after the first application and 90 days after the second application. A regular 8 × 6-point grid was designed in each area and the soil was sampled for total organic carbon, pH, soluble salts (Na + , K + , Ca 2+ and Mg 2+ ) and total nitrogen contents, as well as soil C-CO 2 evolution rate in soil. Geostatistical analysis pointed out the spherical model as the best fit to the studied variables, followed by the Gaussian model, with ranges from 12 to 60.5 m. Neem cake incorporation increased spatial variability and the contents of the evaluated soil chemical attributes.Variabilidade espacial de atributos químicos em Neossolo no manejo da goiabeira com nim no semiárido R E S U M O Considerando a importância do cultivo de goiabeiras (Psidium guajava) para o nordeste do Brasil e os benefícios da aplicação da torta de nim nas características do solo, avaliou-se o efeito da aplicação de torta de nim nos atributos químicos de um Neossolo Regolítico cultivado com goiabeiras irrigadas no semiárido de Pernambuco. Para as avaliações foram usadas duas áreas (área 1 -com nim; área 2 -sem nim) e três períodos, antes da aplicação do nim, 90 dias após a primeira aplicação e 90 dias após a segunda aplicação; assim, 96 amostras de solo foram coletadas em duas malhas regulares de 8 × 6 pontos amostrais e realizadas análises do teor de carbono orgânico total, pH, teores de sais solúveis (Na + , K + , Ca 2+ e Mg 2+ ), nitrogênio total e taxa de evolução C-CO 2 do solo. O modelo esférico foi o que melhor se ajustou às variáveis estudadas seguido pelo gaussiano, com alcances que variaram de 12 a 60,5 m. A incorporação da torta de nim aumentou a variabilidade espacial e a oferta dos atributos de solo estudados.
