Objective: To analyze the quality of life (QL) as proposed by Flanagan, in two groups of revascularized patients; to compare and combine results from this research with data from an ethnography study that interprets the meanings that revascularized patients gave to QL. Method:The methodological triangulation was used in two researches: one qualitative (ethnographic) and the other quantitative; the scale of Flanagan was applied in 124 individuals. Results: In the quantitative study the QL was related to "bear and raise children" and "relationships with friends"; in the qualitative study a good QL was related to wellbeing, happiness, satisfaction, opportunities in life. The identified issues were: health (physical, emotional and spiritual), work and family harmony. Conclusion: The dimensions of quality of life identified in the ethnographic study were similar to the domains of Flanagan's QL-Scale. The spirituality/religiosity, not contemplated in the scale, is highlighted by participants as an aspect of the QL. Keywords: Quality of life; Anthropology; Culture; Myocardial revascularization; Evaluation RESUMENObjetivo: Analizar la calidad de vida (CV) según la propuesta de Flanagan, en dos grupos de pacientes revascularizados; comparar y combinar resultados de esta investigación con datos de una etnografía que interpreta significados de CV de pacientes revascularizados. Método: Fue utilizada la triangulación metodológica de dos investigaciones: una cualitativa (etnográfica) y otra cuantitativa, que aplicó la Escala de Calidad de vida de Flanagan en 124 individuos. Resultados: en el estudio cuantitativo, la CV se relacionó a "tener y criar hijos" y al "relacionamiento con los amigos" y en el cualitativo la buena CV se relacionó al bienestar, felicidad, satisfacción, posibilidades en la vida y los temas identificados fueron: salud (física, emocional y espiritual), trabajo y harmonía familiar. Conclusión: Las dimensiones de calidad de vida identificadas en el estudio etnográfico son semejantes a los dominios que componen la Escala de Calidad de vida de Flanagan. La espiritualidad/religiosidad, no abordada en la escala, es destacada por los participantes como una dimensión de la CV.

This study aimed to investigate health-related quality of life based on the four weeks antecedent to first admission for acute coronary syndrome and describe potential associations between quality of life, gender and prior treatment for any other cardiovascular condition. An exploratory, descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted in two public hospitals in an inner state city of the State of São Paulo. Of 253 participants studied, 69.2% were male, 69.6% were married or living with a partner, and 58.1% were professionally active before the current hospital admission. Mean age was 57.9 years old. Higher scores were seen in the Social Functioning ( x =86.1) domain, while the domain perceived as more compromised was Role Physical ( x =57.7). Female participants and those who had previously been treated for any other cardiovascular condition had lower quality of life, and these differences were all statistically significant (p<0.05). Calidad de vida relacionada a la salud de sujetos internados, como consecuencia del primer síndrome coronario agudoEl objetivo de este estudio fue investigar la calidad de vida relacionada a la salud, basada en las últimas cuatro semanas que antecedieron a la primera internación, por un síndrome coronario agudo, y describir potenciales asociaciones entre la calidad de vida, sexo y tratamiento previo para otras enfermedades cardiovasculares. Como método, se utilizó el estudio descriptivo y exploratorio, de tipo transversal, realizado en dos hospitales públicos en el interior del Estado de Sao Paulo. De los 253 sujetos estudiados, 69,2% eran hombres, 69,6% casados, o vivían con un compañero, y 58,1% eran profesionalmente activos antes de la internación. La edad promedio fue de 57,9 años. Los mayores puntajes obtenidos fueron en el dominio aspectos sociales ( x =86,1), en cuanto el dominio más comprometido fue aspectos físicos ( x =57,7). Se concluye que las mujeres, así como los sujetos que ya hacían tratamiento previo para otras enfermedades cardiovasculares, presentaron peor calidad de vida, y las diferencias fueron todas estadísticamente significativas (p<0,05).

The evaluation of quality of life (QOL) faced with chronic ischemic pain involves the clients in their subjectivity and multidimensionality. This descriptive study aimed to evaluate the quality of life of clients who presented chronic ischemic pain. A total of 100 clients of hospital institutes participated in the study. The instrument used to assess pain was an 11 point numerical scale, and to assess Evaluación de la calidad de vida en clientes con dolor crónico isquémicoLa evaluación de la calidad de vida (CV) frente al dolor crónico isquémico debe considerar la subjetividad del cliente y las múltiples dimensiones envueltas. Este estudio descriptivo tuvo como objetivo evaluar la calidad de vida de clientes que manifestaron dolor crónico isquémico. Participaron de la investigación 100 clientes de instituciones hospitalarias. El instrumento aplicado para evaluar el dolor fue la escala numérica de 11 puntos y para la calidad de vida, el cuestionario World Health Organization Quality of Life abreviado. El promedio aritmético para el dolor crónico fue de 5,59±3,16 puntos. Los promedios para la calidad de vida fueron: en el dominio físico, 44,75±16,98; en el global, 50,0±22,40; en el ambiental, 55,06±13,51; en el psicológico, 56,21±17,19 y en el social, 68,33±21,84.Así, el dominio físico fue, entre los dominios analizados, el que presentó un mayor impacto sobre la calidad de vida de los clientes con dolor crónico isquémico.
