QTL Mapping for Plant Height and Ear Height by Using Multiple Related RIL Populations in Maize

Abstract: Plant height and ear height are two important agronomic traits in maize. In this study, 11 RIL populations developed by crossing a common parent (Huangzaosi, a foundation inbred line of maize breeding in China) with other 11 elite inbred lines were applied to QTL mapping for plant height and ear height based on phenotype data of three locations in two years. A total of 269 QTL detected by single-environment analysis and 176 QTL by joint analysis were identified across all of six environments, respectively. Col… Show more

“…Likewise, Wang et al (2018) developed RIL populations to identify QTLs for plant height and ear height which were distributed on chromosomes 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 10. Earlier, researchers concluded the correlation between plant height and ear height (Li et al 2013) which is in the accordance with our results. Several genes governing the plant height and ear height in maize have been cloned previously, such as dwaft3 on chromosome 9 related to gibberellin synthesis (Teng et al 2013), brachytic2 on chromosome 1 responsible for polar auxin transport (Xing et al 2015), ZmGA3ox2 on chromosome 3 involved in gibberellin signal transduction pathways (Lawit et al 2010).…”

“…Several stable QTLs for plant height and ear height were detected on chromosomes 1 and 10 in two F 2:3 populations 9 . Moreover, five QTL clusters for plant height and ear height were identified in 11 recombinant inbred line populations based on 787 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) 15 . Seven SNPs out of 14,401 were significantly related to ear height according to association mapping results with 159 maize inbred lines, and were co-localised to a QTL region for ear height 16 .…”
