Q-value of the superallowed β decay of 62Ga

Abstract: Masses of the radioactive isotopes 62 Ga, 62 Zn and 62 Cu have been measured at the JYFLTRAP facility with a relative precision of better than 1.8 × 10 −8 . A Q EC value of (9181.07 ± 0.54) keV for the superallowed decay of 62 Ga is obtained from the measured cyclotron frequency ratios of 62 Ga-62 Zn, 62 Ga-62 Ni and 62 Zn-62 Ni ions. The resulting Ft-value supports the validity of the conserved vector current hypothesis (CVC). The mass excess values measured were (−51986.5 ± 1.0) keV for 62 Ga, (−61167.9 ± 0.… Show more

“…In all, more than 125 independent measurements of comparable precision, spanning four decades, made the cut. In the two years since the survey was closed, another ten relevant publications have appeared [6,7,[9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16], and we have now incorporated these results into our data base. Based on these data for the 13 most precisely known transitions, we obtain the ft values shown on the left side of Fig.…”

“…Nowadays, the most accurate mass values for stable [1][2][3][4][5] and radioactive isotopes [6][7][8][9][10][11][12] are obtained with Penning trap mass spectrometers [6,13,14]. The time-of-flight ion-cyclotron resonance (TOF-ICR) method [15] is employed until now for accurate mass measurements of radionuclides.…”

“…Among all newly suggested T z = 0 nuclei this is the one where the fractional uncertainties, both in the experimental input data of half-live and branching ratio as well as in the theoretical corrections have been lowest [13]. A recent JYFLTRAP measurement [19] of the mass difference with respect to the daughter 62 Zn resulted in a significant reduction of the so far decisive uncertainty in the Q EC value from 26 keV [21] to 540 eV. This is illustrated in Fig.…”

“…With several new JYFLTRAP measurements four additional trap based Q EC values of superallowed beta emitters are available for the nuclides 26 Al m , 42 Sc, 46 V, [18] and 62 Ga [19]. For some of these nuclides even an isomeric resolution is required in the preparatory separation step in the first Penning trap (see Section 2).…”
