In order to investigate the effects of foliar application of amino acid and calcium chelate on "Golden Delicious" and "Granny smith" apple trees, a randomized complete block design with four repetitions was conducted. Apple trees were sprayed with (0, 2, 4 mg L -1 ) of amino acid and (0, 2, 4 mg L -1 ) calcium chelate and their combination. Fruit weight, fruit firmness, total soluble solids, titretable acidity and calcium content of fruits were determined. All the applied treatments significantly increased quality and quantity traits compared to the control trees in both cultivars. The combination of amino acid and calcium chelate increased weight of both cultivars. Thus, in this study combination of amino acid and calcium chelate foliar spray treatment could be recommended from results as they significantly increased quality and quantity traits of "Golden delicious" and "Granny smith" apple trees.

No positive relation between endogenous PAs levels and ethylene levels were noticed during post-bloom period in Pyrus communis flowers (Crisosto et al 1992) which is also observed in present case. It is of interest to know that petal senescence is much faster in R. damascena than R. bourboniana and exogenous PAs were more effective in retarding senescence in the former than the latter species (Sood and Nagar 2003).…”

Changes in the concentrations of endogenous polyamines and ethylene were determined in two diverse species of rose viz. Rosa damascena and Rosa bourboniana during post-harvest periods. At full bloom, the concentrations of free putrescine was significantly higher than rest of the polyamines, i.e. spermine and spermidine in both the species. The concentrations of all the polyamines decreased during subsequent periods upto 48 h after full bloom. Similar situation was also observed in conjugated fraction but in bound fraction, during full bloom, the concentration of spermine was higher than rest of the polyamines. In both the species, ethylene showed higher levels during full bloom with maximum in R. damascena, which increased, during post-harvest periods. The possible significance of polyamines, ethylene and their interactions is discussed during post-harvest periods in flowers.
