Effect of foliar application of amino acid and calcium chelate on some quality and quantity of Golden Delicious and Granny Smith apples

Abstract: In order to investigate the effects of foliar application of amino acid and calcium chelate on "Golden Delicious" and "Granny smith" apple trees, a randomized complete block design with four repetitions was conducted. Apple trees were sprayed with (0, 2, 4 mg L -1 ) of amino acid and (0, 2, 4 mg L -1 ) calcium chelate and their combination. Fruit weight, fruit firmness, total soluble solids, titretable acidity and calcium content of fruits were determined. All the applied treatments significantly increased qua… Show more

“…It plays a role in mitosis and favours the assimilation of nitrogen into organic constituents especially proteins. These findings are in agreement with Elzbieta and Zenia (2009) in sweet pepper, Subbiah and Rani (1994), Arabloo (2003), Kumar et al, (2006), David et al, (2009), Tsechelidis et al, (2010), Ahmad and Mahdi (2012), Ireneusz (2012) and Mohammad Ali (2016) in tomato. Presently, foliar fertilization is frequently applied in agricultural practice.…”

“…In general, the positive effects of amino acid foliar spray applications could be attributed to improve pollen tube ovule penetration and delay ovule senescence, which enhance fruit set and yield of Golden Delicious and Granny Smith apples (Arabloo et al, 2017). Foliar sprays of amino acids that gave positive effects on tree fruiting parameters of Canino apricot trees are in harmony with those findings of Fayek et al, (2011) pear, Khattab et al, (2012 pomegranate, Belal et al, (2016)…”

“…Amino acids can directly or indirectly affect the physiological activities in plant growth and development. Exogenous application of amino acids have been reported to improve the growth, yield and biochemical quality of grapes (Khan et al, 2012), apples (Arabloo et al, 2017) and pears (Fayek et al, 2011).…”

“…The results indicated that organic matter and CEC of soil tended to increase slightly with the use of synthesized fertilizers as compared with unfertilized check; also, they improved the soil content of macro-and microelements. The efficiency of organic synthesized fertilizers was improved when they are applied in combination with 1/2 unit or one unit of NPK recommended rates (Arabloo et al 2017). The effect of both diphenylamin and tryptophan significantly increased plant growth (in terms of plant height, number of leaves/plant, stem diameter, root length, and leaf area, as well as fresh and dry weights of the different plant parts) and the contents of carotenoids, total soluble sugars, and total free amino acids in the leaves as reported (Mostafa et al 2014).…”
