Pulmonary Thromboembolism Secondary to Left Spermatic Vein Thrombosis: A Case Report

Abstract: Spermatic vein thrombosis is a particularly rare entity which can be difficult to diagnose. Pulmonary embolism associated with spermatic vein thrombosis is rarely seen. We report the diagnosis and management of a case at our institution and recommend spermatic vein ligation as the definite treatment for thrombosed spermatic veins associated with pulmonary thromboembolism. We prefer laparoscopy as a minimally invasive approach because of its clear advantages over open surgery.

“…1 In the physical examination, our patient had mild pain and dilated palpable spermatic vein suggesting right varicocele. Leaving aside the vein thrombosis, right varicocele is an important clinical sign to do detailed research at the renal hilus level or in the Isolated thrombosis of right spermatic vein with underlying Factor V Leiden mutation case report Isolated spermatic vein thrombosis retroperitoneal region to rule out renal tumours with renal vein, vena cava thrombosis, or retroperitoneal tumours.…”

“…2 There are a limited number of patients, with only 18 cases of spontaneous vein thrombosis noted in the literature. 1 We present a case of isolated spermatic vein thrombosis in the right spermatic vein with right varicocele of the testis and discuss treatment alternatives in light of current literature.…”

“…Therapeutic recommendations vary considerably. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7] As preventive and therapeutic recommendations for lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT) are well established and accepted, 8 we compared risk factors and clinical outcomes of TVT to DVT patients to determine if these therapeutic strategies can be used to treat thrombosis in the testicular vein. A recurrent venous thromboembolic (VTE) event was defined as DVT, pulmonary embolism (PE), or atypical venous thrombosis (occurring within venous segments such as renal, mesenteric, or cerebral venous sinuses).…”
