“…However, Pavela and co‐workers [34] found (+)‐enantiomers of α‐pinene and limonene (ca. 76 % ee and 83 % ee , respectively)in essential oil from twigs of Picea abies , collected in Abruzzo, Italy.…”

“…However, a more likely reason for the discrepancies is an error in assignment of chromatographic peaks of enantiomers. Pavela and co‐workers [34] carried out chirospecific GC analysis using β‐cyclodextrin as chiral selector and mentioned (+)‐α‐pinene and (+)‐limonene as the first‐eluting enantiomers under temperature programmed conditions (50 °C→220 °C/2 °C min –1 ). However, Yassaa and co‐workers had shown previously [36] that (−)‐α‐pinene and (−)‐limonene were eluted first (capillary GC, stationary phase with β‐cyclodextrin, temperature programming 50 °C→200 °C/2 °C min −1 ).…”

“…Bean weevil females are more tolerant to monoterpenes and essential oils ( Regnault-Roger and Hamraoui, 1995 ; Papachristos and Stamopoulos, 2002 ; Papachristos et al, 2004 ; Lazarević et al, 2020 ), which is confirmed in our study with residual contact toxicity of thymol where we recorded higher median lethal concentration and lower initial mortality in females than males. In other insect species, females are usually more tolerant to plant-derived compounds ( Yeom et al, 2012 ; Theou et al, 2013 ; Jang et al, 2017 ; Park et al, 2017 ; Pavela et al, 2021 ). Sex differences depend on applied compounds and the method of application.…”

“… Jang et al (2017) detected higher tolerance of female Drosophila suzuki to topically applied citronellal, citronellol and isopulegol, but not after fumigant application. Only essential oils rich in α-pinene were more toxic to Musca domestica males ( Pavela et al, 2021 ). In the bean weevil, females were about 3.5 times more resistant to α-terpineol and only 1.2 times more resistant to α-pinene ( Papachristos et al, 2004 ).…”

“…Knowledge of the biotoxicity of phytochemicals and their nanomaterials against non-target species is still quite rare. Many authors have found that phytochemicals and plant-mediated synthesized nanoparticles do not harm several non-target species that share the same ecological niche of the targeted pests (Benelli 2016;Benelli et al 2018;Pavela et al 2021a). However, most studies focus on acute assessments, while detailed information on sub-chronic and chronic evaluations is quite rare (Benelli et al 2018).…”
