Abstract:The environment in which organizations operate is shown increasingly complex and competitive, leading companies to structure themselves in order to get quick, flexible and innovative responses. Projects are important instruments for promoting change and development. Since the 1990s, it's been intensified in organizations the creation of the Projects Managements Offices, accepted by executive, which is the central point of support within the organization, so that work oriented by projects will be completed within the constraints of the business. The international research indicates the Project Management Office as a focus of interest, since the results found have not yet reached the answers needed to help professionals to solve their problems. This paper aims to evaluate the performance of the Project Management Office, from the constructs: "implementation strategies", "capacitation and personnel training" and "control of the operations environment in projects". The approach was a quantitative research in a single cross-sectional study and the conceptual model was examined with Structural Equation Modeling. The results indicate the degree of influence of constructs on Project Management Office performance, and people, is the most significant predictor, followed by strategies and finally operations.

O desempenho organizacional é, frequentemente, associado com a vantagem competitiva. Nos estudos de estratégia, com a intenção de ampliar a comunicação da visão global da organização e de suas iniciativas, desponta a administração estratégica de projetos, a qual está relacionada com os mecanismos e o conjunto de decisões gerenciais que determinam o desempenho da organização no longo prazo. Este estudo verifica como a Resource-based viewa agrega valor para as iniciativas organizacionais para alcançar o desempenho organizacional por meio de projetos. O estudo considera a administração estratégica praticada pelo gerente de projetos, para apresentar um quadro conceitual com quatro proposições que demonstra a integração do modelo Valor, Raridade, Imitabilidade e Organização com a gestão de projetos e as respectivas relações com o desempenho organizacional.

An application software package implementation is a complex endeavour, and as such it requires the proper understanding, evaluation and redefining of the current business processes to ensure that the implementation delivers on the objectives set at the start of the project. Numerous factors exist that may contribute to the unsuccessful implementation of application software packages. However, the most significant contributor to the failure of an application software package implementation lies in the misalignment of the organisation’s business processes with the functionality of the application software package. Misalignment is attributed to a gap that exists between the business processes of an organisation and what functionality the application software package has to offer to translate the business processes of an organisation into digital form when implementing and configuring an application software package. This gap is commonly referred to as the information technology (IT) gap. This study proposes to define and discuss the IT gap. Furthermore this study will make recommendations for aligning the business processes with the functionality of the application software package (addressing the IT gap). The end result of adopting these recommendations will be more successful application software package implementations.
