1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (C 2 mimCl) ionic liquid molecularly imprinted polymer (C 2 mimClMIP/PS-DVB) was prepared on the surface of poly(styrene-divinylbenzene) (PS-DVB) by using C 2 mimCl as the template molecule, methacrylic acid (MAA) and ethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as the bifunctional monomer. The preparation conditions were optimized and the molar ratio of 1∶4∶14 for C 2 mimCl∶MAA∶EGDMA was selected as the optimal polymerization molar ratio. Then infrared spectra (IR) spectrophotometer, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area and pore size analyzer were used to characterize the molecularly imprinted polymer, it was shown that C 2 mimClMIP/PS-DVB was successfully prepared on the surface of PS-DVB. The static adsorption experiments were performed in acetonitrile to investigate the adsorption properties and selective recognition characteristics of the polymer for C 2 mimCl and its structural analogues. Selective adsorption experiments showed that C 2 mimClMIP/PS-DVB has high selectivity for C 2 mimCl and C 4 mimCl. Adsorption isotherm experiments suggested that the maximum adsorption capacity of C 2 mimClMIP/PS-DVB and C 2 mimClNIP/PS-DVB for C 2 mimCl was 144.71 µmol/g and 22.56 µmol/g, respectively, and for C 4 mimCl was 124.53 µmol/g and 21.42 µmol/g. While the total number of binding sites N t , mean association constant K 0 and the heterogeneity index m of C 2 mimClMIP/PS-DVB were 130.9 µmol/g, 0.37 L/mmol and 0.8, respectively. C 2 mimClMIP/PS-DVB solid phase extraction column was prepared to investigate the solid phase extraction properties of C 2 mimClMIP/PS-DVB. Various parameters, such as the loading volume, flow rate and eluent solvent, were optimized for the C 2 mimClMIP/PS-DVB solid phase extraction column experiments. Saccharomyces cerevisiae and several other yeast species are among the most important groups of biotechnological organisms. S. cerevisiae and closely related ascomycetous yeasts are the major producer of biotechnology products worldwide, exceeding other groups of industrial microorganisms in productivity and economic revenues. Traditional industrial attributes of the S. cerevisiae group include their primary roles in food fermentations such as beers, cider, wines, sake, distilled spirits, bakery products, cheese, sausages, and other fermented foods. Other long-standing industrial processes involving S. cerevisae yeasts are production of fuel ethanol, single-cell protein (SCP), feeds and fodder, industrial enzymes, and small molecular weight metabolites. More recently, non-Saccharomyces yeasts (non-conventional yeasts) have been utilized as industrial organisms for a variety of biotechnological roles. Non-Saccharomyces yeasts are increasingly being used as hosts for expression of proteins, biocatalysts and multi-enzyme pathways for the synthesis of fine chemicals and small molecular weight compounds of medicinal and nutritional importance. Non-Saccharomyces yeasts also have important roles in agriculture as agents of biocontrol, bioremediation, and as indicators of environmental quality. Several of these products and processes have reached commercial utility, while others are in advanced development. The objective of this mini-review is to describe processes currently used by industry and those in developmental stages and close to commercialization primarily from non-Saccharomyces yeasts with an emphasis on new opportunities. The utility of S. cerevisiae in heterologous production of selected products is also described.
