Production of jacaranda plantlets by minicutting

Abstract: The objective of this study was to investigate the production of jacaranda (Jacaranda mimosifolia D. Don) plantlets by minicutting. For this, a mini-clonal hedge was established to supply sprouts for minicuttings. For adventitious rooting, the minicuttings were treated with hydroalcoholic solution of indolebutyric acid at concentrations of 0, 1000, and 2000 mg L-1 and grown in a greenhouse. The survival of minicuttings was evaluated at 30, 60, and 90 days, and rooting, callus, sprouting, leaf area, root area, … Show more

“…However, the variability in germination percentage (Parreira et al, 2011), the diffi culty in acquiring large quatities of seeds (Debnath, 2004) and the long period of vegetative development (Gantait et al, 2011) have led to the search for alternatives propagation ways. In this context, vegetative propagation methods such as minicutting (Fauerharmel et al, 2020) and micropropagation systems (Malosso et al, 2012;Silva and Stefenon, 2014;Silveira et al, 2018) have been established for some Jacaranda spp due to their ornamental potential and phytochemical and ethnopharmacological relevance, contributing to their conservation and domestication (Silveira et al, 2013).…”

“…Jacaranda mimosifolia (Bignoniaceae) is an important economic and ecological tree distributed throughout northern Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil and northwestern Paraguay. Its abundant blue-violet owering promotes its plantation as ornamental in squares, parks and gardens throughout America, southern Europe, South Africa and Asia (Fauerharmel et al 2020;Xie et al 2021). Compounds extracted from its bark, leaves, roots or owers such as jacaranda acid, jacaranone, coumaric acid, among others, are capable of inhibiting venereal, digestive, liver and skin diseases.…”
