A B S T R A C TPoultry manure and mechanical management may influence the distribution of nutrients in the soil profile. The objective was to evaluate physical and chemical changes in a soil with palisade grass (Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu) fertilized with doses of poultry manure with and without use of soil chiseling, after 180 days of application. The design was a randomized blocks with four replicates, in a 5 x 2 factorial arrangement with five doses of manure (0, 1.073, 2.074, 4.148 and 6.222 Mg ha -1 ), with and without soil chiseling at 0.20 m. Soil chiseling caused physical changes with an increase of macroporosity in the layer of 0-0.2 m and reduction in soil density and increase in macroporosity and total porosity in the layer of 0.2-0.4 m. With manure doses, pH in the layer of 0-0.1 m showed quadratic fit with maximum value of 7.2. The increases in Ca and Zn in the layer of 0-0.1 m were, respectively, 0.61 cmol c dm -3 and 2.99 mg dm -3 . In the interaction of Dose x Management, without soil chiseling, K showed a linear fit and increased 1.39 times; while in the interaction of Dose x Management, with soil chiseling in the layers of 0.1-0.2 and 0.2-0.4 m, P increased by 8.10 and 3.95 mg dm -3 , respectively. In the contrast between the dose zero and manure dose, there was significance for pH, Ca, P and Zn in the layer of 0-0.1 m.Alterações físicas e químicas em solo fertilizado com esterco de galinha em diferentes manejos R E S U M O O esterco de galinha e o manejo mecânico podem influenciar na distribuição de nutrientes no perfil do solo. O objetivo foi avaliar as alterações físicas e químicas no solo com capim Marandu fertilizado com doses de esterco de galinha sem e com uso de escarificador, após 180 dias de aplicação. O delineamento foi em blocos ao acaso com quatro repetições num arranjo fatorial 5 x 2, com cinco doses de esterco (0, 1,037; 2,074; 4,148; 6,222 Mg ha -1 ) sem e com escarificação a 0,20 m. A escarificação favoreceu alterações físicas com aumento de macroporosidade na camada 0-0,2 m e redução de densidade do solo e aumento de macroporosidade e porosidade total na camada 0,2-0,4 m. Com doses de esterco o pH na camada 0-0,1 m teve ajuste quadrático com valor máximo de 7,2. O aumento nos teores de Ca e Zn na camada 0-0,1 m foi, respectivamente, de 0,61 cmol c dm -3 e de 2,99 mg dm -3 . Na interação dose x manejo sem escarificação do solo o K teve ajuste linear com aumento de 1,39 vezes enquanto na interação entre dose x manejo com escarificação nas camadas 0,1-0,2 e 0,2-0,4 m, o P teve aumento de 8,10 e 3,95 mg dm -3 , respectivamente. No contraste entre dose zero com dose de esterco houve significância para pH, Ca, P e Zn na camada 0-0,1 m.

RESUMONesse trabalho teve-se por objetivo avaliar a produtividade da cultura da mandioca submetida a diferentes épocas e níveis de desfolha. O trabalho foi realizado em Presidente Prudente/SP. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições. ), massa fresca individual (374,8 g), diâmetro (5 cm) e comprimento de raízes (26,5 cm). A semelhança de valores entre os tratamentos pode estar relacionada a condições adequadas de solo e clima, o resultou em rápida recuperação e manutenção de elevada produtividade. Palavras Chave: Manihot esculenta; desfolha artificial; formato de raiz; número de raiz. CASSAVA YIELD IN FUNCTION OF LEVEL AND TIME DEFOLIATION ABSTRACTThis study aimed to evaluate the cassava crop yield submitted to different levels and times defoliation. The work was conducted at Presidente Prudente city / São Paulo State. The experimental design was in randomized blocks with four replications. The treatments were: without defoliation (control), defoliation of 25, 50 and 75% in November 2013 and defoliation of 25, 50 and 75% in February 2014. The planting was carried out in June 2013. It was verified that there was no statistical difference in yield (32 t ha -1 ), total (134,555 units ha -1 ) and commercial roots numbers (89930 units ha -1 ), individual fresh mass (374.8 g), diameter (5 cm) and root length (26.5 cm). Similarity of values among the treatments could be related to adequate soil and climate conditions, which caused the plants to present a rapid recovery and to maintain high tield. Soil fertility status of cassava fields treated by integrated application of manure and NPK fertilizer in Zambia

Background: Cassava is a heavy feeder crop that can cause serious depletion to soil nutrient stocks. This research aimed to explore soil fertility status and nutrient supply capacity at different growth stages of cassava fields under combined application of organic manure and NPK fertilizers in two agroecologies of Zambia. Topsoil (0-20 cm) samples were collected from cassava fields treated with factorial combination of four levels of chicken manure (0, 1.4, 2.8, and 4.2 ton ha −1 ) and four levels of NPK (control, 50N-11P-41.5K, 100N-22P-83K, and 150N-33P-124.5P). The soils were sampled under the cassava canopy to determine soil pH, available phosphorus (AP), total nitrogen (TN), organic carbon (OC), cation exchange capacity (CEC), exchangeable bases and micronutrients (Fe, Cu, Mn, and Zn). The samples were collected before planting andafter establishment at 4, 8, and 12 months after planting (MAP). Results:Manure application significantly (p < 0.05) increased soil pH, while the application of mineral fertilizer reduced soil pH at all the plant growth stages. Similarly, manure application and their interaction with mineral fertilizer increased OC and TN levels, especially at harvest. By contrast, OC and TN decreased with the application of mineral fertilizer. AP levels increased following the application of both fertilizers. In addition, manure application significantly increased soil Zn content from 0.69 mg kg −1 in the control to 3.54 mg kg −1 for the highest level of manure at harvest. The interaction between manure and NPK significantly affected Fe and Mn content in the soil. Conclusion:The results revealed that sole chicken manure application or its combination with mineral fertilizer improves soil nutrient status of cassava fields in Zambian condition. which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided you give appropriate credit to the original author(s) and the source, provide a link to the Creative Commons license, and indicate if changes were made.
