Printed thermochromic displays

Abstract: Thermochromic displays, which were evaluated in this study, combine printed electronics with the thermochromism phenomenon. Conductive lines printed on the reverse side and thermochromic printing ink printed on the front side of cardboard packaging form a thermochromic display that gives cardboard packaging additional value. Displays were printed on different printing materials, and thermochromic printing ink was deposited in one and two layers. In addition, half of the samples were varnished. The influence of… Show more

“…The results showed that the thicker the ink binder layer on the surface of microcapsules, the slower the degradation rate of microcapsules. Kavcic et al [10] applied different printing materials on the printed display and deposited thermochromic ink on the first and second layers. The effects of printing materials, the thickness of the thermochromic ink layer, varnish, temperature and light resistance on the operability of the display were studied.…”

“…Cardboard packaging [26]; [27] Baby food [28] Textile [24] Suppository Drug [29] Based on research [29] conducted a study on suppository drug packaging that melts easily during storage, which does not match the information in the packaging brochure. Thermochromic ink is applied to a transparent mica plastic that changes its colour from a transparent light green to dark green.…”

“…20 Due to the activity of leuco dye to energy, thermochromic microcapsules are showing a poor heat and light stability. [21][22][23] For example, thermochromic microcapsules and their product lost thermochromism property when thermochromic microcapsules are exposed to sunlight even for a very short time, which greatly limits their outdoor application. 24,25 In recent decades, some reports on the stability of thermochromic materials have been carried out.…”
