Prevention and control measures in radiology department for COVID-19

Objectives: COVID-19 has caused a negative impact and paralysis in the activities of the dentistry field because it has a high risk of contamination and transmission of the SARS-Cov-2. Even so, dental services cannot stop completely, especially for emergency cases, so that a new form of adaptation of normality is recommended for all dental services including the dentomaxillofacial radiology. This article aims to discuss the adaptation to the new normal era of in the dentomaxillofacial radiology examinations. Literature Review: The use of dentomaxillofacial radiographic examinations is indispensable for diagnosis and determination of treatment plans, but in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic and this new normal era, modifications are needed in stricter infection control in dentomaxillofacial R\radiology installations to prevent as much as possible the possibility of virus transmission SARS-Cov-2. The application of room controls, medical personnel, x-ray equipment, patients, and radiograph documents are very important in carrying out the adaptation to this new normal era. Conclusion: An adequate infection control and application of teleradiology are important things to be considered and implemented as a form of adaptation to new normal in dentomaxillofacial radiology installations in patient care as a way to prevent transmission and contamination of the SARS-Cov-2 virus during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Objective: The aim of the recent management reorganization of the Emergency Room and Radiology ward was to face the recent Coronavirus pandemic in the most rational way possible, to preserve the essential role of these Units in the complex context of a pavillions structured Hospital. Methods: The most challenging management criticalities posed by the recent Coronavirus pandemic were individually analyzed and dealt with. The pavilions structure of our Hospital, biohazard management, shortage of personnel and shortage or temporary inadequacy of personal protective equipment were addressed as the most urgent and important problems.Results: A strategic use of the Radiology Information System and Picture Archiving And Communication System (RIS-PACS), dedicated ambulances with specific disinfection procedures, the institution of dedicated pavilions, wards, checkpoints and different paths for COVID-19 (Coronavirs Disease 2019) and non COVID-19 patients, frequent sanification procedures, serological screening for employees and emergency dedicated staff recruitment were put to place as a result of said analysis.Nevertheless, all of these goals couldn’t have been achieved without a constant sense of responsibility of the employees involved.Conclusions: A rational analysis of the most critical problems associated with a pandemic is vital to provide a fast and effective response, and represents a valuable wealth of experience in case of future pandemics.

SARS-CoV-2 is the seventh member of the family of coronaviruses that can cause infections in humans, termed as COVID-19, which is now a global pandemic. Because it is a novel virus, considerable efforts and extensive studies are needed to fully understand its characteristics. Its symptoms and severity range from mild to critical, depending on several factors, such as host susceptibility to the virus and their immune system, with the most common symptoms being fever, fatigue, sore throat and runny nose. There is no clear treatment available yet, though several options are being explored, with research for vaccines being at the forefront. Traditional Chinese Medicine may also be used as a treatment option. Since this virus is similar to the SARS-CoV and MERS viruses, considerable insight can be gained from previous studies. Although many patients recover completely, there are several factors that lead to poor prognosis.
