Resumo O Problema Crônico de Coluna (PCC) é uma das doenças mais prevalentes no mundo e representa uma das principais causas de anos de vida perdidos por incapacidade. Embora de grande relevância para a saúde pública, estudos sobre o acesso e a utilização dos tipos de tratamento são escassos. O objetivo deste artigo é descrever os principais tratamentos para PCC no Brasil, analisar os fatores associados à sua utilização e discutir possíveis desigualdades na utilização de fisioterapia /exercícios e a utilização de medicamentos. A partir da PNS 2013 foram realizadas análises descritivas sobre prevalência de PCC e regressão logística múltipla para analisar a associação segundo as características demográficas, socioeconômicas, a situação da saúde, a limitação causada pelo PCC, acesso a serviços de saúde e regionais. Ter ensino superior aumenta 2,39 vezes as chances de realizar fisioterapia, no entanto, a escolaridade não se mostrou associada à utilização de medicamentos. Indivíduos de estratos superiores apresentam quase 2 vezes mais chances de realizar fisioterapia, o que não foi observado para medicamentos. Sobre as condições de saúde, o aumento do grau da limitação por PCC eleva a chance de uso de medicamentos em até 3,5 vezes, mas não varia quando associado à realização de fisioterapia.

Background: Over recent decades, Brazil’s health indicators have improved; however, access to the country’s health services is not homogeneous, with urban areas being better served than rural areas. The general objective of this work is to identify the influence of rural residence and other factors on the incidence of chronic spine problems, hypertension, and elevated levels of cholesterol in Brazil using the last Brazilian National Health Survey (NHS - 2013)) definitions and data. The analysis provided by this study contributes data that can be used to determine the probability of these three conditions occurring in Brazil and identifies the most vulnerable rural groups as defined by diet, physical activity, smoking, and alcohol consumption. Method: A logit model was estimated to identify the influence of the variables rural residence, sex, age, race, education, health insurance, work, Body Mass Index (BMI), consumption habits, and region of residence on the chronic conditions analyzed. Results: Results show that rural residents are 5.8% more likely to have chronic spine problems and 0.9% less likely to have hypertension than urban residents. The incidence of all conditions was lower in men than women. The Body Mass Index (BMI) value also influences the chance of having the conditions studied. Individuals with at least a secondary education were less affected by the analyzed conditions than those less educated. There were regional differences in these conditions’ incidence, mainly chronic spine problems and hypertension. Conclusions: The variables BMI, gender, and years of alcohol consumption had significance in all diseases analyzed. To correct underreporting issues, public policies should be directed to expand rural health services. Additionally, actions should be taken to raise the public's awareness of the effects of obesity and alcohol consumption on health.

Introduction: Low back pain is characterized as a pain in the area between the 12th rib and the low gluteal fold. This pain can affect different ages. During the growth peak, the postural control system is rearranged; therefore, the maintenance and fixation of these structures is crucial for the performance of daily activities. Thus, the prevalence of low back pain and their risk factors must be investigated, so that effective preventive measures against low back pain may be taken. Objective: To investigate the prevalence of low back pain and the risks associated to it during the third infancy, that is, children aged between 6 and 12 years old. Method: A transversal and observational study with 150 children of both genders, students from private institutions of Lavras, Minas Gerais, in 2016. Questionnaires were applied in order to understand the characteristics of the sample (age, gender, school year, ethnic group, parents’ educational level, means of transportation to go to school and situations that caused or aggravated low back pain) and their low back pain (in the last 12 months). Results: The rate of occurrence of low back pain in the senior year of school was 20%. According to the chi-squared, “school year” and “ethnic group” (pardos) were the variables associated to low back pain. Sitting, mainly in front of the computer, was reported to be the main cause of the symptoms. Conclusion: Low back pain presented a prevalence of 20% with no significant difference between genders, but there was an association of low back pain and variables related to the school year and the ethnic group.
