“…However, to our knowledge, HPV-58 was detected more frequently in some areas of China, supporting diversified and geographic variations of HPV distribution (1-4). Our recent study found that HPV-58 was the second most prevalent genotype in cervical carcinoma in western China (8). In the present study, we further verified that in this area, HPV-58 is the second most prevalent genotype in CIN patients, which could be detected in over one-fifth of CIN lesions.…”

“…However, HPV genotype prevalence varies in different countries or regions. In a previous study, we reported a high prevalence of HPV-16 and -58 in cervical carcinoma patients in western China, suggesting HPV genotype distribution may be quite different from other regions in the world (8). In the present study, we further investigated HPV type-specific prevalence in CIN lesions in a much larger patient population.…”

“…The reports on HPV infection in patients with CIN in the Western China are scarce, and the sample sizes of these studies are nonrepresentative. [1517] Thus, to develop reasonable screening and treatment plans for patients with HPV infections in the Western China, as well as provide evidence for the development of preventive and therapeutic HPV vaccines, we treated patients with cervical precancerous lesions admitted in our hospital from January 2016 to August 2016 as our study subjects and analyzed their HPV infection subtypes. The study demonstrated the following results: the overall HPV infection rate was 82.58%, and the high-risk HPV infection rate was 76.61%.…”

“…For example, HPV16 is slightly more prevalent in Europe and North America, HPV 31 is more prevalent in South/Central America, HPV 33 and 45 are more prevalent in Africa, and HPV 52 and 58 are more prevalent in Asia [9, 1117]. Furthermore, the data from mainland China indicated that HPV16, 18, 33, and 58 were the most common types in women with CC in Henan, central China [18], whereas HPV16, 58, 18 and 33 were the most prevalent types in CIN2+ (high-grade cervical lesions, including CINII/III, and CC) in women in Liaoning, northeast China [19], and HPV16 and 58 were the most common types in CC and high-grade precancerous lesions in Chengdu, southwestern China [20]. …”
