Preparation of monoglycerides by guanidine‐catalyzed processes

Abstract: Glycerolysis of methyl stearate and tristearin has been carried out in the presence of alkylguanidines-strong nonionic bases-as catalysts. When applied at 10 mol%, 1,5,7-triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec-5-ene, 1,2,3-tricyclohexylguanidine, and 1,3-dicyclohexyl-2-n-octylguanidine give monoglycerides in more than 90% selectivity, in a maximum of 6 h reaction time. JAOCS 75, 755-756 (1998).

“…Presently, heterogeneous catalysis has been studied extensively in methanolysis reaction for biodiesel production and in glycerolysis of fatty methyl esters reaction for MAG production . To our knowledge, the application of immobilized catalyst in glycerolysis of TAG reaction (glycerol and TAG as reactants) at low temperatures (<100°C) has been rarely reported.…”

“…The regioselective opening of the ring may be catalyzed by a number of metal alkoxides [12,13] of which tetraisopropoxy titanate appears to be the most efficient. Catalysis with tertiary amines, ammonium salts, and alkyl guanidines [14][15][16] was also employed. The mentioned procedures are universal and make the preparation of virtually any 1-MAG possible.…”

“…Corma et al have successfully synthesized of monoacylglycerol using MgO as a catalyst and this reaction gives 65 35 . The utilization of the alkyl guanidine compound as a catalyst for synthesizing of monoacylglycerol has been carried out by Aguiar et al 36 . Monostearin that is product reaction gives a low yield of about 10 .…”
